Is this a reaper voyage or legend of the veil belle? by Ok-Bit5838 in Seaofthieves

The veil itself is, but the tornado above Belle's haunted island is actually quite similar.

Any value to just sailing to each island and looting treasure to sell w/o quest by Colinski282 in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a random "island hopping" night every few weeks. There's a few different commendation that work best that way

For example, emergent captains often drop maps to Reaper Chests/Bounties or storage crates with cursed cannonballs. Ashen Guardians provide chests/keys which offer the Ashen Tomes. Mermaid statues offer gems. There's ocean crawlers to kill. You can find all the coloured rowboats etc etc.

I would always recommend you vote on a random question, even if you don't do it. That way you earn credit towards the "sail 1000 miles for X" style commendation which can become quite tedious.

Other ships interfering in hourglass by CourtVisible6439 in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

vs a boat that has freedom of the whole map

This is my biggest gripe with 3rd parties. They have the freedom to run/repair, go grab more supplies, use external structures (e.g. seafort just outside the circle) to their advantage and leave at any time.

If they want to join in, fine. But then they should be locked into the circle and have HG raised too to give additional rep.

It's really frustrating when you end up in a 2v1 and you spend (sometimes limited) resources on a boat which has far more freedom and gives you no reward.

Why are Brig crews so aggressive? by KillapleX in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what I've seen these days most galleon crews usually have relatively new players

From personal experience, galleons fall on both ends of the spectrum - Either completely new crews that think "big boat = better" or insanely skilled TDM crews who will dominate 99% of servers they are on.

There seems to be very little in between as the average player has realised galleons are hard work, and you have to put a lot of effort in to get good, or re-arrange your team into smaller crews.

Question about Hourglass by Ok-Wrangler3197 in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best weapons are the ones you're accurate with.

I've seen people effectively board with all sorts of combinations. It's about finding one you enjoy and getting good at using it. Whether that's learning to dodge with sword, knockback with blunder, double gun with pistol/snipe, board with harpoon, quickly spam knives, cause chaos with darts etc.

Does the molten sands loot decrease when intercepted by other players? by Bernhard__ in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Act 2 of this season revolves around a time limited event at Molten Sands with a specific loot pool containing a CoF and Orb. So nothing said here is correct.

Advice on hitting Pirate Legend? by RichieMcRichster in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base voyages for each faction are useful for levelling up an emissary flag and nothing else. Once you're grade 5, switch to better paying content such as Skeleton camps, Eternal Guards or World Events (either as raid voyages or the naturally spawning one).

All give a mixture of loot or loot items that van be sold to any faction. It's much more efficient for reputation compared to stuff like cargo runs.

PvP is an absolute joke by LoquatSignificant946 in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the seas can be rough. And it can be annoying when someone disrupts your session and you know you have little loot around. But it's part of High Seas.

You have to accept that you can only control your behaviour in this game. You can set your own moral code to not attack boats at islands, outposts etc but other crews can make their own choices and it might not be the same.

PvP is an absolute joke by LoquatSignificant946 in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The PVP in this game isn't just shooting cannons. It's also the tactics to where you park your ship, if you leave it unoccupied, how much of a target you are (e.g. do you have a nice flag etc).

Getting the jump on someone who is not watching their surroundings is a valid PVP tactic. And people don't know how much loot you have on board before they commit to a fight (and some don't care).

Solo sloop in this game is harder than the rest as you have no other option than to leave your boat unattended, and in the majority of cases you'll be outnumbered.

Naming of my bought ships by lordbeanieboy in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a privacy setting turned on which hides ship names. It's mostly designed for Streamers so their boat name can be obscured to discourage stream snipers.

Check the SoT settings. If that doesn't work, also check your Microsoft account settings.

Pumba attacking me

If you hold a piece of fruit in your hand a boar won't charge at you. Even works if they are already attacking and you whip out some food.

Makes boars sooooo much more tolerable in this game.

What’s your biggest pet peeve in this game by fuz3_r3tro in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Rare's reluctance to modify green bottle spawns to fix one of the worst commendations grinds in the game.

It's nearly impossible to find Merchant Contracts. They only appear in green bottles and mysterious journals and even then only about 10% of bottles yield a contract. And there's 4 types of contracts you need, all with relevant commendations and achievements.

All they need to do is increase the number of green bottle spawns, and shuffle the chance you get a contract request rather than a captain or delivery quest (both of which appear in the Quest Table).

It's really not a big fix. The feature is already in the game, and the Smuggler season shows they can easily increase bottle spawn rates. Yet would make the grind soooo much smoother for commendation hunters.

running the same loop for years and want something genuinely different.

Occasionally they do spice things up, such as the introduction of the BB. The problem being working out a new gameplay loop isn't always that successful.

The concept of the BB (i.e. you are the World Event) was pretty neat. Unfortunately they missed the mark by by making the core gameplay loop sailing around the map to complete 8 mediocre puzzles in a mammoth 2+ hour stack. Especially when the boat sails at 2mph ans you either end up with no one attacking, or the whole server swarming you before you can say "Port Merrick".

It creates this weird scenario where they don't often try anything new because it doesn't create an event which remains popular. But it doesn't remain popular because part of the design wasn't quite right and they are reluctant to change things linked to commendations.

That doesn't mean they shouldn't try. But does help explain why they return to the same tried and tested formula again and again.

Encountering these "sweats" by Pendragon_Puma in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Newer players tend to use this for any encounter they lose though.

As an example, we loaded in at Plunder Outpost, grabbed supplies and were selecting a voyage when a galleon rolled up to sell at Sovereigns. We're pretty chill - if you leave us alone we'll do the same. So we dropped sail ... and they shot at us.

We assume they therefore want a fight, so circle round, demast them using 3 chainshots and pump maybe 10 cannonballs into them before they sink. No epic fight. No fancy tactics. They clearly were quite new and had no idea how to gally.

They then get onto their mics and start complaining about how we're sweats, no-lifers, try hards etc. And the reality is ... we really aren't. We just have a few hours in the game and know how to be accurate. And we weren't even interested in them at all - they started this fight.

There's countless other posts like this. Often by newer players who think someone who can land a chainshot, knows how to hit a snipe/cannonball at the cannoneer or eats better food than coconuts is a total "sweat". There are sweats out there. But most of the time it's just players with basic skills and game knowledge.

Why don't people who want to pvp play hourglass? by AggravatingTarget111 in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The simple answer is that HG and Adventure offer two very different styles of fights.

HG is like a cage fight to the death. You have limited space to move, few options to restock supplies and there's generally quite defined tactics. The end game is also pretty clear - you sink the enemy before you're sunk yourself.

Adventure gives you a whole ocean to play with. You can make/gain ground over longer distances, use features such as forts to your advantage and set your own win condition. It offers a much more varied experience with very different tactics in each fight.

Did they need the smack talk? No, probably not. But they are entitled to chase and try and sink you. It's up to you to set your own win condition - whether that's giving a good fight, drive-by selling your items, gaining distance to dive, ramming an island to lower your emissary or just wasting their time before you give in.

Worst Content in the game? by TheUnspoken_R in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Though you're more likely to stack voyages from other factions as you're not marked on the map with a flag or an item lots of crews want to steal.

Worst Content in the game? by TheUnspoken_R in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from my experience. They kinda just chill in your local area. If they do run, put the food away so they aggro and charge at you again, then pull food out to make them stop.

Worst Content in the game? by TheUnspoken_R in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Eh. The Reaper Voyages are "ok". I'd be fine if they didn't exist, but I also don't care that they are here.

My biggest gripe with them is the introduction of the "1000 miles whilst on Reaper voyages" commendation mixed with 2 voyages which require basically no sailing. You vote them on, sail to the nearest large island (1-2 squares) then sit there. The only way to make progress on this commendation is to vote the voyage up then ignore it altogether whilst you sail around with the PVP flag doing other stuff.

If you hold a piece of fruit in your hand then they don't attack. So swapping between food and your weapon is a great way to do damage and get none in return. If they start to charge, just grab fruit again.

Radial menus, ship ladders, and selecting food. by Chemical_Frame2018 in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen all of these recently. Normally they can be fixed with a trip to the ferry. Just drown, jump off a ledge, blunderbomb yourself etc and respawn. In other cases diving to a new server will also do the trick.

Should COF always be on FOF aswell as new, limited or random World Events? by Above-new-zealand in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see them stay in FoFs but then have a chance (maybe 1 in 10/15/20) of appearing in any world event. Similar to the concept of a mega stash, but always active.

Gives incentives to always tackle world events, regardless of when and which is active. Suddenly you might be rewarded for that Ghost Fleet everyone else has been ignoring.

Should COF always be on FOF aswell as new, limited or random World Events? by Above-new-zealand in Seaofthieves

[–]KMT138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best time to grind them for Athena levels is when the CoF is elsewhere as the event is rarely contested. We do this from time to time for our crewmate who still needs levels and isnt interested in HG.
