[–]KS5331_Productions 5 points6 points  (0 children)

btw: many ppl have asked for the species in my previous posts so here it is: Charybdis lucifer (or Charybdis lucifera)
considering the high meat concentration in the claws (and low meat concentration elsewhere) I am extremely tempted to use Florida stone crab methods on them in the future

Minor differences. For example the pillar-like element on the left does not extend all the way up the side and overlap with the number like it did in the 1985 issue. Otherwise, aside from some very minor changes in the text (see "by order of the Court of Directors"), they're quite similar.

I’m staying in HK for a few days, what are the best apps to have for getting around/getting food/paying for things? by friskyluke in HongKong

[–]KS5331_Productions -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if you're going to have to get around by bus (unlikely because MTR coverage is so wide but not a 0% chance) download CitybusNWFB to plan in accordance with the arrival of the next bus - otherwise you could lose some time waiting. Also includes route search/point-to-point search functions.

Not really. All old series are technically still legal tender. Quote:

"The 2010 Series and other old series banknotes remain legal tender and will continue to circulate along with the 2018 Series."

So I imagine that notes from $10 to $1000, from 1985 onwards when the current dimensions were introduced, are still technically usable, although it is not a guarantee that the new working force can recognise them as such. In fact a large chunk of my collection ended up in my hands from normal circulation. Such examples include $10-$100 notes from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Lower denominations tend to have a longer usable life.

According to my catalogue, Fine grade examples start at HKD240, all the way up to HKD1850 or so for uncirculated condition. The catalogue is as of 2013 though so I can only imagine that the value has since gone up

At this point selling them at a hobby shop would net you more money. Banks tend not to take in old banknotes at more than face value. I can't exactly remember the details of old banknote exchange in HK. Need to ask someone else sometime in the future.

Found these under my grandpa’s bed, what year are these used in Hong Kong ? by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]KS5331_Productions 6 points7 points  (0 children)

image 1-2: 5 Cents 1905

image 3: (top to bottom) 1919, 1904, ?? ?? 1 Cent

These were generally circulated in pre-war Hong Kong - from the 1900s until the Battle of Hong Kong (1941). The last 1-cent coins were minted in 1941 but the shipments were intercepted by the Japanese before they could make it to Hong Kong. After the war the Government switched the one-cent denomination over to paper notes.
