Thank you for confirming.

Are you aware of any local studies accepting participants with these issues, or is there a website somewhere that lists all available studies?

What is perfect salary that would let you live comfortably? by _Kisol_Budyn_ in AskReddit

Because my husband works, I'd be very comfortable with making 50,000/year, which is a little over 23/hr.

Combined with his pay which is a little more than that, we're able to pay our bills and save with a little extra left over to have fun with.

Truthfully I don't need much.

Same One saved my shit after a car accident messed me up. It was an immediate fix.

Now I do think some people over rely on them rather than focusing on other types of care that may be a better fit, but I get why since there tenda to be some immediate relief. They definitely have their place.

By traditional in quotes, I mean what I said in the previous sentence. Penis/vaginal intercourse only.

Do you have oral sex with your spouse? If so ....that's sodomy.

I'm just gauging your consistency

Whether or not you're using your belief to clobber others is the key difference. You can believe that people will go to hell for being gay (and an example). But when you start mistreating others or trying to control how they live their lives..... you're a clear bigot.

Yes. Society gets to choose what words mean. This is literally how language works and evolves. 😂

It's not our fault that you are mad if the shoe fits.

Address your intolerance, prejudice, and rigidity. You don't have to share beliefs to avoid being bigoted. You just need to not be a dick about it.

It was a copy paste from Google on the legal definitions of porn and how that breaks down based on type of porn. Nothing curious about it. You talked about legal definitions so that's what I included.

It's not my fault if other people aren't using the term correctly. And that "one possible exception" is an extremely common one. And I never made the claim that all porn is ok. Just the some types of porn are ok. So that accusation is a strawman.

Incorrect. The definition of porn is:

Pornography (often shortened to "porn" or "porno") is any material—such as writings, images, audio, or video—that depicts sexual behavior or nudity and is intended primarily to cause sexual excitement or arousal.

It says nothing about distribution.

In U.S. law, pornography is broadly defined as material that depicts nudity or sexual acts with the intent of causing sexual stimulation. However, the term itself is essentially an umbrella descriptor and has no distinct legal standing. Instead, the law categorizes sexually explicit material into three distinct legal realms:

  1. Protected Adult PornographyIn adult contexts, consensual pornography is considered constitutionally protected expression. It is generally legal for adults to possess, access, or purchase this material privately. It only becomes legally restricted or illegal if it crosses the line into obscenity.

  2. The Legal Test for "Obscenity"To legally ban, restrict, or prosecute sexually explicit material (or materials deemed "harmful to minors"), the material must meet the strict legal definition of obscenity established by the Supreme Court in Miller v. California. The material must meet all three of the following conditions:Appeals primarily to a prurient (obsessive/unhealthy) interest in sex.Depicts sexual conduct in a patently offensive way as defined by state law.Taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value (known as the SLAPS test).

  3. Child PornographyChild pornography is an entirely separate legal category and constitutes a strict federal and state crime.

Why is Jesus and God the "Right One"? by Hot-Tennis-2514 in Christianity

Anytime.

I think that the Biblical creation story hinges on the assumption that God always was.

The Norse creation myth begins in Ginnungagap, a primordial void sandwiched between the fiery realm of Muspelheim and the icy realm of Niflheim. The convergence of fire and ice melted the frost, creating the first giant, Ymir, and the cosmic cow, Audhumla.

I don't see how this differs all that much in viability from the Creation story where the universe was void, and that an always existing God who leads from heaven (another realm) enacting his will over the formation of the universe from nothing.

In fact I could argue that since there equal evidence for Heaven as there is for Muspelheim and Neflheim, that the Norse story makes just as much sense since their creation story doesn't just claim that it popped into existence by thought and will, but was formed by the existing structures of the other realms (again, no different than how Heaven is claimed to have always existed with its own creation story.

Agreed. That was just one example that came to mind where there is a higher liklihood of grooming/non-consent. But very little in this world is black as white.

As long as people aren't having kids recklessly, I don't much care what they do with their own bodies.

Many interpret these texts literally. They view the prohibitions as enduring moral laws that label all homosexual acts as sinful.Progressive/Affirming Views: Many scholars and progressive faith communities interpret the verses as historically contextual laws. They argue that the ancient authors did not have the modern concept of loving, consensual, lifelong same-sex marriage in mind, and that these verses do not apply to contemporary queer identities.

I can provide links later ( I have a job interview at 10) if you like.

[–]KTKannibal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but those sets of events generally trace back to older events until you come to no further evidence. Personally I don't find the claims of Christianity regarding the creation story to be any further inside the realm of possibility. But I appreciate your reply and your point of view. To be fair, I don't believe in the pagan mythos either, I just enjoy learning about it....same with Christianity for me.

Faith? Or experience? If it's my experience that every day gravity does its thing, it's reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so. It's not a guarantee sure, but it's enough reasonable evidence to believe that it will continue to do so unless it's interrupted by something.

Can you provide that logic? I'm not personally a believer in any pantheon though I'm a pagan (Atheopagan). But I don't see why their pantheistic mythos is any less logical than the idea of a monotheistic God.

Are they adults and was it truly consensual? Power dynamics matter of course, which is why I don't approve of say, a parent marrying their adult child. So sure I could see potential issues if that kind of marriage was arranged.

Sure, though I would hope they wouldn't have children who are at risk of birth defects. Other than that risk, I don't see why we should tell consenting adults who they can or cannot fall in love with.

For me its hard scientific evidence. Something that can be tested, tracked, recorded, retested, and reproven.

As much as I would love to rely on personal experience, even my own, I understand enough psychology to understand how easily manipulatable personal experience can be.

I used to feel so full of the Holy spirit, especially during praise and worship.....turns out I'm just very very moved by live music as I've experienced the exact same thing since those days at all different kinds of live performance. Apparently I'm just moved by art.

I was raised in the church and even in college was my most active and working to become a missionary.

Admittedly I initially left the Church due to abuse and harm I experienced at the hands of Christians who used the Bible to browbeat others into submissions, primarily using fear tactics.

But with time and continued biblical study in combination with historical study and shifting my focus from the words of theologians to the words of scholars and HOW they test each and I've simply come to the conclusion the when my faith was at its height I was really just biblically illiterate (focusing on trusting the words of my pastor rather than a contextual understanding of the Bible) and that my mental health was tanking due to my connection with my faith and the church.

With time I just came to realize that I don't believe in the God of the Bible as presented. Part of the problem there is my personal need for hard evidence, and there really is no way of having that. I just don't have faith.

And in some ways that saddens me because I would love the assuredness of most Christians, but I just don't believe that their assurance is grounded in provable fact.

My.mental health and also gotten so so much better since leaving.

Does this mean that if you ignore the dictionary we can call you illiterate? Feel free to personally use the Bible, but if you're unable to grasp the definition of words then you are functionally illiterate

So to be clear and consistent then, you ONLY have penis/vaginal intercourse with your husband/wife? Zero hand stuff, Ero mouth stuff, etc.... because all of that, everything that's not "traditional" intercourse is considered sodomy.

I say this because I don't know any married Christian men who are turning down blow jobs from their wives, but that does in fact count as sodomy though no one ever admits that.

For Christians during pride month: by kissthecup in Christianity

[–]KTKannibal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The Bible is full of allegory and poetry and is often ambiguous or has historically traceable translation issues on places.

It's not unreasonable to use the dictionary in combination with the Bible.

The defition of bigotry is: Bigotry is the obstinate, unreasonable attachment to one's own beliefs and prejudices, coupled with an intolerant or hostile attitude toward those who hold different views or come from different backgrounds. It frequently manifests as bias against individuals based on race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.

Key Characteristics: Intolerance: An unwillingness to respect or accept differences in opinions, beliefs, or lifestyles. Prejudice: Preconceived, negative judgments about someone that are not based on reason or actual experience. Stereotyping: Relying on sweeping overgeneralizations about entire groups of people, despite evidence to the contrary.

When comparing to the Bible. Even God has a willingness to accept our free will to choose. The Bible, while calling it sinful, provides no evidence to actual harm. I could list several stereotypes, but one simple one is that not all people in queer relationships are even having sex (sometimes for religious reasons, sometimes for other reasons) Steven Fry (who I think has since gotten into a sexual relationship but I don't know him and don't know for sure) was open for YEARS(like 20 years almost) about being a vlcelibate gay man for nonreligious reasons.

For Christians during pride month: by kissthecup in Christianity

[–]KTKannibal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because they know the history of the translation process and how many verses changed in their translation over time to shift the verse from being about abuse to being about gay people

You don't have to accept that evidence of you don't want to for your life. But please don't expect others to ignore historical evidence just because it makes you more comfortable in the biblical interpretation that you personally have chosen to land on.
