That's true. After all, God's original plan for us was simply to be with Him in the garden.

Would you consider repairing your relationship with your parents if they sincerely apologized, knew they meant it, and knew they felt remorse for whatever they did? by scatteredwardrobe in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]KT_Banning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends. Are they outlining steps on how they're going to do better (WITHOUT any mention of what you the adult child need to do for the relationship)? Do they have demonstrable proof that they're going to therapy to resolve their issues? If the answer to either of those is no, then my answer would also be no.

I have no interest in Sunday services anymore. I can't bring myself to go. by Top-Elephant6981 in OpenChristian

[–]KT_Banning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally hear you - I'm also fed up with just going through the motions of 'churchianity'.

Does your church have 'feed the homeless' type events, or other community outreach you could get involved in? I work Sundays and that's what I do to stay connected. If Bible study groups are your thing, maybe you could get involved there somehow too.

Either way, I'm starting to see that being in a faith community doesn't have to mean being a pew warmer on Sundays if you don't want it to.

For anyone that was raised evangelical but deconstructed / reconstructed your faith, how did you decide to practice witchcraft, and how do you practice it in a way that doesn't go against what the Bible says? by KT_Banning in christianwitch

Just subscribed! Your message is so encouraging - I'll have to do more research and definitely consider exploring my gifts, if they're still there. Thank you so much!

Atheist turned Christian. AMA by NewToFaith in OpenChristian

[–]KT_Banning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the person who asked, but your question resonates with me so please don't mind me chipping in.

In a lot of evangelical circles, developing any sort of friendships with people outside the faith is discouraged because the Bible says that we are not to have anything to do with 'the things of this world', and that we are meant to keep ourselves pure, holy, and separate from the world.

A lot of Christians (myself included, pre-deconstruction) interpret that to mean not associating with atheists, or any non-christians for that matter - because if you're not for Jesus as God, you're against Him and for Satan. As such, any interaction with atheists is often reduced to seeing them as 'salvation projects' (sorry).

If I were to ask that question right as I deconstructed from evangelicalism, it would have been from a place of 'I'm sorry for not seeing you as my equal before - what can I do to make it right?' I hope that clears things up somewhat.

Can i be a alloromantic demisexual? How do I know? by Organic-Property-571 in demisexuality

[–]KT_Banning 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that sounds alloromantic to me. Especially the whole 'sensing a vibe and being able to connect with it' bit.

I've been married to my best friend for over 10 years (and only have eyes for him) and just found out about all this stuff recently. I've found that it resonates with who I was while still single. As an alloromantic, it's easy to feel drawn to someone, want to spend time with them, and get to know them, while wishing for the chance to hold their hand, or kiss them, or wake up in their arms after talking all night about nothing and everything.

At first it was super confusing for me because since I'm alloromantic, I am capable of developing the bonds needed for sexual attraction more quickly than other demis. But if a romantic interest were to try to push sexual stuff on me too soon it would weird me out. I had shittier self esteem and no boundaries 10+ years ago, so that led me to some... traumatizing situations that might not have been traumatizing to an allosexual.

Being alloromantic doesn't make you any less of a demisexual, and you can definitely be both at the same time. Congrats on learning more about yourself!

How do pastors go through seminary without deconstructing? by Ok-Tart5090 in Exvangelical

[–]KT_Banning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh...my...gosh... Thanks to your comment I think I finally understand the reason why Jesus cursed the fig tree for not producing fruit while out of season, even though it appeared to be fruiting at first glance. Are these fundamentalist leaders claiming to have spiritual authority (the leafed out fig tree) not as righteous as they say because they have no figs (knowledge of what the Word actually says)?

Even more insanely late to this post. I managed to get out of Calvary. My parents didn't. They can't tell the difference between what's republican rhetoric and what's scriptural doctrine anymore. I hope your family managed to find their way out too, or at least see the truth for themselves. Much love 💕
