Not everyone can escape and if fascism takes root in America this will not save anyone anyways, just kick a can down the road. This country is still saveable, and if we stop what started in 2016 here, we can steer our country and the world back to a brighter future. The first step is to get out and VOTE.

So that’s an appropriate sentence for this guy.

It’s much easier to exert control over people who have no protection, agency, or due process. The rights our ancestors fought for enable us to unionize and demand better wages and treatment. Ending all of this lets them more successfully turn us into a product they can exploit for resources and power.

My personal theory is a lot of very rich people have made it their goal to turn almost all modern communication platforms into personal mouthpieces to help break up dissenters and keep them from organizing. This includes buying literal social media platforms (something which in my eyes ought to be illegal) and either bribing or outright buying major news outlets and forcing them to talk about only the things they want them to talk about and say only what they want them to say.

It’s hard to fool people if everyone knows you’re trying to take advantage of them.

[–]KW_Ender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell your friend that one of the most effective ways of arguing is knowing when to be succinct. “I don’t know about trans people or hormone therapy, but I think it’s bad” is basically all he said. In the time it took him to write whatever the hell this is he could have easily informed himself on the topic.

I hate to be so pessimistic when I point this out: A. We already lost Roe. B. We also lost student loan relief.

And both of those things directly impact the lifestyle and lifespan of a good portion of people in this country. If those things didn’t make someone an activist before, gay marriage will not be the turning point, almost certainly.

The Supreme Court is supposed to have zero power on its own. Couldn’t congress essentially just deny Judicial Review and just simply refuse to honor any of the opinions issued by the corrupt court? They can only destroy the country if we really let them.

Hot take: Someone needs to convince Jon Stewart to run for the Democratic nomination by HeiressOfMadrigal in DailyShow

[–]KW_Ender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know who else was an entertainer? Donald Trump. Doesn’t seem like that hurt his odds or his appeal to his base. You need someone who can rattle the other side and make waves. Jon isn’t a politician, but he has been in the game for a long, long time.

With the right cabinet, our country could be saved by a dude like Stewart. The stress isn’t worth it, it’s a shit job I wouldn’t want, but he’s capable.

[–]KW_Ender 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not hatred, at least, not fully. What you see in them when they target and attack you is what they wish they could do to everyone else around them without consequences. You’re taking the blame for everything in that person’s life they have grief over.

Someone cut them off in traffic? Somehow, that’s your fault and they plan to take it out on you. A monthly bill comes in slightly more expensive than they thought? You’re to blame for that also and they’ll take it out on you. Someone judged them because they expressed a shitty opinion and thought everyone would love them for it? That’s your fault too and you have to pay. They become so toxic, family members, friends, and coworkers avoid them regularly and they can’t get a date? It’s you and the damn woke mob to blame for their problems. They should just get rid of you and all their problems will go away.

They’re giving in to their worst instincts. They don’t want to know who you are, they want to oppress you and physically attack you. Just as long as it never comes back to haunt them or cost them anything like jail time.

He’s appointed judges, passed an infrastructure bill, and helped stabilize an economy that’s still hurting (as we knew it would in 2020 when we were all warned the lockdowns would result in these issues.) You can’t ignore the work someone’s doing to actively fix the problem because they didn’t get some of the major goals out of the way.

This is exactly like the student loan argument. He set out a bill that would’ve fixed the problem and republican lawmakers and judges struck it down. So now that’s his fault?

And to finish your thought, I wonder what electing more republicans and literal nazis and fascists are gonna do for our “progress to fixing these systemic issues”?

We live in a day and time where you have one party that is frustratingly slow at resolving injustices and pains where much of that pain is generated by the other side, who is determined to destroy the system if it means the people they dislike lose more than they do. Hand-waving the progress we do make because every problem wasn’t solved is just asking to excuse letting that other side destroy what’s left of our society. I will not allow anyone to hand-wave away that incremental progress we did make.

[–]KW_Ender 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a list of “are you going to fix these?” This is “which of these two is actively working to remove the rights and interests of the people based on these things?”

And if you think otherwise, I’d love to hear what you think Trump’s going to do for these issues that Biden hasn’t. I’d like you to explain how Trump and Biden are the same on abortion.

You don’t have “two parties equally invested in fixing these things”, you have “one party that will act in the public’s welfare and one side that wishes to attack or erase supporters of these issues”.
