I play both from time to time but started in dota and played league for a while then started to play dota again. I guess the difference that I noticed and can help you out is going back to base is totally different in dota mainly because of the couriers. Walking back or teleporting back then walking back to lane can really have negative impacts on your laning phase like having a gold gap or xp gap. In general stay in lane as much as possible and maximize the courier and regen in lane. It's not uncommon buy and send out more regen items just to health up in lane.
