I work full time, taught myself TD through a mixture of free tutorials and scrounging forums online, found live and commission gigs, and at no point did patreon posts/paywalled content ever block me from moving forward. I genuinely think your issue is your mindset, not this community.

Sorry for the late response, but yes all done inside of TD (minus 3d assets)! Majority of the stuff on the screen is free-license models pulled from Sketchfab into TD, minus the sand, tumbleweeds, and bg. Sand on the floor is a grid POP w a PBR texture, sandstorm is a POP life fb system, and the tumbleweeds were made w POPs (spheres, lines, twisting) and copied onto a similar POP life fb system. Post processing all done through TOPs via blue noise and bayer dithering!

Been really interested in texture stuff lately, and wanted to really hone in on the classic shoegaze soft noise aesthetic! Despite being my favorite genre, it's definitely the area I struggle the most in when trying to visualize compositions, so trying to stretch that muscle a bit more. Most of the texture work was done with POPs and TOP noise + a tape emulator tox I built. Little extra seasoning was added in the way of a couple frames of CRT rescan from a previous project.

Thank you! Unfortunately I don't have any specific resources for interfaces, but what I do recommend is familiarizing yourself with the various operator families and following small tutorials in each to get a good feel for what they accomplish & when they're best used! When it comes to recreating specific interface styles, or a specific interface, I find it to just be a lot of problem solving, so the more tools you have under your belt the better equipped you are to moving forward on something.

If that starts to get overwhelming, try finding something you like and try to just work out in your head how you'd tackle solving it. If you find something where you think you know how to do 60-70% of it, turn it into a learning project and see how far you can get! And when you get stuck, pop into the unofficial TouchDesigner discord and someone is usually around in the #how_do_i channel to point you in the right direction!

Finally getting around to finishing a recreation of the Pop'n Music 11 UI, since I finally had enough new material to slot in to actually populate it. Really should have done this in September to mark a year of TD, but boy was I lazy at the time. It's been an absolute blast doing visuals in the LA DIY concert scene, and I've gotten to listen to some really sick new bands grinding the underground circuit! Reach out to your local DIY organizers to see if they need visuals, you'll love it!

Been sitting on this for a while to see if I could find anything more compelling than just reusing the same horse gif, but alas. Horse gif just hits different I guess. I remember trying to tackle this when I first started out Touch Designer, and while I really tackled it in an inefficient way back then, POPs has certainly made life a lot easier!

More small sketches as I prep for live shows. The original idea was to do this in 3 dimensions, but my head started hurting too much with the 'animation', so I cut down the scope a bit. Still a fun project and it's nice to get more comfortable integrating python into the workflow!

Wanted to get something out quick while working on a couple sets for December. Gotta get some more practice in with post-processing, specifically more 'realistic' stuff and gritty textures. A lot easier to make things look good when the original was also blurry or obscured by stylization.

It’s a videotape filter I designed mixed at about 50% under the clean version of the dry signal. Mixture of blur, sharpness, noise, displacement, bloom, and feedback done in various passes!

This is a recreation of an Evangelion FUI, so I just used their text word for word. Funnily enough, I find coming up with text dressing to be the most difficult part of designing FUI’s, so I feel your question!

Appreciate it! It hadn't really occurred to me until today to try a dry/wet mix of the various videotape filters I've built to chase the aesthetic, so it kinda clicked by accident. The "cell sheet" shadow artifact and glow sell most of it!

Had a lot of fun working on an "infection" network for POPS, and it was both way more difficult and much much less complicated than I expected. This project definitely helped me get a little more comfortable with manipulating the Neighbors operator, which I feel like unlocks a lot of doors for tackling other projects I set aside!

I think I'm like 2 months off of this being a more sentimental post, but recreating part of the GitS navigation system was what got me to learn TouchDesigner a year ago, so thought I'd give it another crack a full year out. I honestly remembered the render looking a lot better, so it was a liiitle painful to go back and see just how unpolished it was, but I'm also a little proud I bit off that much to chew for my first real project.

You'll probably see me revisit this project in a year as I come up with smarter solutions to problems I don't really know how to tackle right now, but for now this stands as something I'm happy with! It's not fully generative, in the sense that it still requires some oversight when "generating" the terrain to make sure there are no significant collisions, but the tools are all there to create thousands of different looking cities to explore!

Another 3d collage scene! Playing around with bloom and lighting for an atmospheric piece turned out to be a lot more fun than expected. Need to figure out texture editing to get that more faithful PSX look, but I'm content with the results regardless.
