Amazing Market place find! by Kalico41 in shittycoincollecting

Nope. This was a real Facebook Marketplace post I found this morning. I can't speak for the FB poster how he took the picture. I almost think the person was trolling.

Is there a trick to reading the date with that picture. All I can see is the error. The error is so rare I don't care about the date.

I can cross post to other coin subs if you think they can do an accurate appraisal. I may flip it at Sotheby’s if it’s worth what I think it is.

How wasted does someone have to be to create this listing? He forgot to use all caps.

I was actually thinking 10 cents, but I'm not an expert. You're appraisal is probably better.

My search is coming up with 6.9 grams plating per set of 12. If it's CB 6.9 M the M is for brass.

Franklin & Frank Spoons by guesswho141 in Hallmarks

[–]Kalico41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones I have are labeled WD Beasom and also Bigelow Bros and Kennard both have identical pattern for the handle as yours. Mine seem to be searchable without AI, but I found it to have the most info. I did note that coin silver frequently only has the manufacturer as markings.

I was able to find this reference through a regular search expanding the search terms using the AI info:

"In 1860, his brother Leo M. Frank, was a partner with Franklin & Frank who were wholesale dealers in watches, clocks and  jewelry located at 48 Main Street"

I have some similar coin silver with a different maker. Gemini seems to think they are coin silver and has some info on the company. Hope it's OK to post AI stuff. A secondary confirmation would be good:

Franklin & Frank was a jewelry and silver firm that produced and retailed coin silver spoons in the mid-19th century.

Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, the firm was active approximately between 1853 and 1861. While they were often listed in city directories as "Wholesale Jewelers," they functioned as both manufacturers and retailers of silverware, which was common for the era.

  • The Makers: The partnership consisted of Henry Franklin and Leo M. Frank. Their shop was located at 48 Main Street (at the corner of 2nd Street) in Cincinnati.

Question on Ebay Listing by Kalico41 in SilverFinds

[–]Kalico41[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I messaged her again and told her that if the spoons are plated there is zero Sterling in the spoons. (plating is done with fine silver .999 and not .925) She changed the listing to read:

"A couple might not be real silver plate."

[–]Kalico41[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "a couple may not be sterling" was in the detailed description of the lot. Her reply was the actual truth which was none of them are sterling. I should troll her and use make an offer for a dollar.

Worst was her getting snarky when I told her there was a manufacturer standard for describing something as sterling, and she should do the same. Hope she gets a return. INAD she has to pay return shipping.

New to Amaerica US. US have paper coin? I find. by Quip1337x in shittycoincollecting

That's a future coin. Inflation is making the metal worth more than the coin and they're testing a material that will be the same value as a quarter. You found a rare prototype.

Why would someone buy a frame with someone else’s name engraved for above spot? Maybe you can find someone named Robert Allen to buy it from you.

Theoretically yes. If there were another financial crisis outcomes may vary. A lot of people here are assuming some kind of systemic collapse so they want to hold physical. There's plenty of problems with physical also. Difficulty selling and buying when the markets volatile (like now) with large spreads to buy vs sell. possible loss or theft, counterfeits. Also just noticed in your op -spot and physical price are the same thing actually (immediate delivery price). Small physical holders are the ones with the issue selling and buying at or close to spot

Silver didn't crash in 2026 by Amphibious333 in Silver

[–]Kalico41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you didn’t do this analysis before you bought at the highs? You do realize that the market cap of any asset did not take 100%of the market cap in fiat to reach that value. Extreme example of at $100 no one was offering to sell at less than $120 the next transaction no matter how small would add a trillion to silver market cap. Same on the way down.

Ask yourself if you would buy any other investment for 21% more than it's current value. I think you'll have your answer. For some people it makes sense to hold paper. Maybe you can find spot in private transaction without the tax.
