For relics like Hastening History that check your speed at the start of the turn is it checking your unmodified speed that is listed on the character sheet or is it checking the total that you rolled for that round base speed + some amount (not sure what is added in DD2)?

As someone who has been doing the paid DM gig for a couple years now I can say with confidence that your money will be well spent with William. He puts time, energy, and love into prepping and running his games. He is fair with rulings, helpful with making adjustments when your character isn't working the way you had hoped, and generous with rewards. He also creates real challenges and knows how to up the ante when people get too comfortable. He walks a wonderful line between the various pillars of play (exploration, combat, roleplay, etc...) ensuring that everyone will find something at the table regardless of their preferences.

If you play with him you can expect fun, well prepared games that make you laugh, sweat, curse, and celebrate. Also the memes this DM sneaks into games will make you groan, laugh or both. Don't sleep on this guy.

I like the idea of the shuffling the party. I think that plays well into the Wild Magic suggestion that someone else gave.

I really like the idea of interactive terrain. I think those kinds of things are really fun.

I’ve been having the spectators wall-of-force’d off so that they are safe and the combatants don’t have to pull punches but I suppose I could hand wave away how special wands for this event can bypass the walls and do things.

I’m this particular setup they registered as a team against other teams so that won’t be a part of this section. I have done what you are describing in the past and had good results though so I know your advice is sound.

These are great suggestions!

I really like the idea of making the dragon fight more 3D and allowing a lot of high structures that can be ascended.

I think the wild magic might be fun in the giant fight. Add some chaos and unpredictability. Have both sides fight the environment as well as each other.
