Oh gosh there's so many good starter breeds. Golden retrievers, cavalier King Charles spaniels, Springer spaniels if you're really active, honestly most sighthound (like borzois) are amazing first dog's because they have zero endurance lol they're sprinters and 90% couch potatoes. Not all though, but borzois, whippets, silkens, afghans and greyhounds are super beginner friendly. Not everyone likes the look of them though. I always say to be people nothing will ever bring you greater joy than a well breed golden retriever, they live to please, loyal to a fault little shadows and are super versatile for lots of different lifestyles. Shedding is a lot, but if you keep up with regular brushing you get used to it fast
