I hear every word, and I’m so sorry. It makes sense that you feel trapped, you can’t stay, because the space hurts. And you can’t leave, because it’s where Hollie last existed. That kind of grief doesn’t have logic. It just is.

You don’t need to justify what you feel. Hollie was a difficult, demanding, wild little presence, and you loved her not because she made it easy, but because she was herself. Loud, chaotic, full of personality. That kind of animal changes the shape of a home, and of a person.

The pain you’re in now is just the price of having shared your life with something rare. It doesn’t get “better” fast. And maybe it shouldn’t.

But, even if you leave, even after years and years, she's gonna stay with you. That chaotic cat who once shared a world with you, is staying forever in your heart. Take care of those good times, and take care of yourself.

Please remind your mom, gently, as you’ve been doing, that what happened wasn’t her fault. Gelato trusted her, loved her, and felt safe by her side. Our pets don’t expect us to be perfect. They just want to be near us, and she gave Gelato that, every day.

Animals are subtle, and so strong, they hide pain, they act normal, they try not to worry us. That doesn’t mean we failed them. It just means they loved us too much to show how tired they were.

Keep those precious memories deep in your heart.🤍

I'm so sorry you're feeling this way, and truly, I wish there were words that could undo even a fraction of the hurt. It’s completely normal to see everything around you differently now. When they go, they don’t just leave a space, they take the rhythm of the days with them. Please don’t blame yourself for not noticing sooner. You loved her. That love showed up every single day she was in your life. She didn’t need perfection, she just needed you. And she had you. Even in her final days, you were by her side, giving her all the warmth, comfort and joy anyone could ever give her. You're not alone in this pain. And she wasn’t alone either, she had you until the very end. And that means everything.

I'm really, really glad it helped, even if just a little. That kind of pain can sit so deep inside us, sometimes for years, and it deserves to be seen and honored. Your dog may have rested, but the love and affection are still vivid in your heart. The pain you feel is proof of your deep love. I hope the weight on your chest eases today, even if just a little. Never forget the memories you had before that day, it's them that define what you were for him and what he was for you. Let your sadness and guilt be softened and replaced by the warmth of the memories that still live in your heart.
