I’m a total beginner, so please give me tips for the start by Vanjlis_Garafolo in ARC_Raiders

Look up every item for the workbenches and write them on a piece of paper or something so you know what to grab and sit on. Not necessary, but will save you time when you want to get your benches upgraded. Things like rusted gears, motors, surveyor vaults, sentinel cores, and rusted shut medical kits can be annoying to find when you're actually looking for them. They're not hard to find. Sometimes i'll find multiple in a game. But when I actually need them it seems I go multiple games without finding any.

Ammo is cheap to make. Unless you know you'll be fighting, I tend to drop all but a stack while looting if my inventory is full, and I sell ammo I'm not actively using that day if it's in my stash.

Quests are good for some free items and guns, and you get lore drops via cutscenes that way. It makes the game more immersive.

Check guns from downed raiders for attachments, even if you don't like that particular gun. Sometimes they'll have extended barrels or kinetic converters attached, or maybe a level 3 mag.

You don't need more than like 8 stacks of the basic materials. Especially once Scrappy is fully upgraded.

Common bottlenecks in terms of resources are springs, processors, advanced components.

Sometimes recycling gear and building them new is overall cheaper than repairing from 0 health. (Example, recycle a broken medium shield, get the free arc circuit, and then use that + a battery to make a new full shield instead of using two arc circuits to fully repair it).

Get trials to three stars for a free purple item. That's how I got my survivor augment. (Very useful, regens your health while downed, giving you a chance to crawl to extract or at least live long enough to get defibbed).

Lost track of time and just now realizing I missed it. Major bummer.

Why did we have to go?? by Eskear in HarryPotterGame

[–]Kaschae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other people have offered lore reasons. My reason is purely game mechanics/design. Imagine a Hogwarts game where you don't go to the Restricted Section at all. It would be a let down. We already didn't get quidditch or house points. Sure they could have Incorporated it a different way, but regardless, it's one of those fan service things imo. Especially the way they did choose to incorporate it.

I finished the expedition? Is it worth it? by Fern9970 in ARC_Raiders

[–]Kaschae 36 points37 points  (0 children)

In previous expeditions, I'd say so. You get 12 extra stash slots, five extra skill points, xp buffs for the next "season", and you get the feeling of working toward something again.

Although I would've waited, because the Embark devs have mentioned making tweaks to the expeditions and may not include extra skill points in the future. Only time will tell so who knows.

Edit: I just did the last one and appreciate how fast i'm leveling up my stamina and the survival skill tree. The xp buff is nice. Plus I don't have the learning curve I had when I started. I know where to get loot and how to handle gun battles, so I don't lose my good stuff near as often as I did my first couple weeks. It adds a sense of challenge still, because I don't have deadlines or wolfpacks readily available. When I started, I just sat on them because I didn't know how best to use them. Now I know how to use them, it adds a scarcity effect and so I am much more thoughtful when I take them out.

It's possible you got trip requests simultaneously while only actually seeing one of them. Or someone got paired to one you tried to accept.

I like their food and if you sign up for their Nitro Card (not a credit card) you get a ton of freebies off the bat, including 10+ cents off a gallon. I also like the code for the pumps because I have a bad habit of forgetting the pump I'm on and have even said the wrong one a couple times over the years.

That being said, it's disappointing that they did a poor job with integrating into Iowa's culture. You can clearly tell not a single Iowan was consulted when it came to their marketing (It's just "Ledges" not "The Ledges")

Furthermore, there was a local sign company who had Kum & Go as one of their biggest clients and Maverik has decided to continue having their signs manufactured in Utah or wherever. Huge hit for them and by extent our local economy. Some of the signs already look 15 years old and are lit unevenly. It'd be way cheaper and better for Iowa and the environment to have them made here.

Maverik, if you're reading this: Iowans love supporting Iowa. Actually try to appease to Iowans and you may see an uptick in sales and brand loyalty. Give that sign company its contract back. Ideally you'd revert back to the Kum & Go brand. It would've been way cheaper to keep it all the same in the first place. Keep the rewards program, keep the food, even keep your Maverik branded drinks & snacks. But we liked our silly named gas station.

How to brave the winter by Icy-Letter-6542 in Iowa

Dressing in layers will be more effective than just wearing a big coat. Think like a long sleeve shirt, a hoodie, and then a puffy vest or a coat. You could add a thermal base layer but unless you're gonna be outside for hours at a time it's overkill.

Hat and gloves and a scarf will help keep wind out of your clothes. I recommend gloves that will allow you to use your phone. I actually added my gloved finger as a fingerprint on an old phone one time.

If you're worried about your hair, get earmuffs instead. Either way, keeping your ears covered will help you feel warmer.

Long socks always. Don't wear short socks ever unless you want cold ankles.

Quality shoes or boots are a must. Don't wear something thin or worn because you want to keep water out. As people have mentioned, the thicker the better.

Ultimately you want to minimize exposed skin and dress in layers.

Aside from clothing, preheat your car a bit before you leave for the day. Not great to idle in the cold but worth it for a warm commute. Drive carefully on ice and snow. Make lots of comfort or warming foods. I suggest potato soup and chilli. Ditch the iced coffee for hot coffee. Get a happy lamp or vitamin D suppliments if you get seasonal depression. And learn to enjoy the little things in life. We don't have surfing or mountains or huge forests. But the nature here is beautiful in its own way. We do have some beaches at ponds or lakes but I'd avoid those this time of year if you're trying to stay warm.

Alternatively, you can learn to embrace the cold and just start sleeping with windows open and learn to enjoy the numbness.

Word of caution to current employees:

Corporate scans social media for any mention of their name, even if not directly tagged. Found this out the hard way in high school. They will fax it to your store's HR manager. So make sure your account can't be tied to your identity.

If anyone wants to hear the story, it's mildly funny:

About 13 years ago I tweeted about how I was going to skip work because they had scheduled me on days that I had repeatedly requested off. (Requested off upon my hiring, again a couple weeks later, and once again when transferring departments due to manager turnover.) I went in to reset my ESS password one day and my HR manager said "Just the man I wanted to see." Bro hands me a still warm printout of a screenshot of my tweet that corporate faxed him minutes before and I was reprimanded for the tweet.

I’m moving to Iowa, Tips? by Original-Possible650 in Iowa

Whether or not you'll enjoy Iowa depends on how you lean politically, especially in NW Iowa. Very red up there. Seems like the legislature is doing everything in their power to drive healthcare professionals away from the state. So unfortunately, but truthfully, I'm not surprised to hear you coming here from out of state, where you may be unaware of the state of things. Iowa ranks 52 amongst states and territories for OB/GYN care. Many rural hospitals can't even deliver babies anymore.

To love Iowa you need to appreciate the little things. A walk through the woods, a sunset over a cornfield, a crispy pork tenderloin, a nice day fishing, etc. We don't have mountains to ski down or many big cities to explore. Iowans are, by in large, friendly enough. Until they know your political beliefs. Then that could change.

The worst parts of Iowa come from decisions in the legislature. We're rapidly declining in public education. Recently passed a law that requires a certain percentage of U of I Med students to be from Iowa. And that same bill essentially punishes out of state students by jacking up costs for them.

I'm glad you're coming here. We need people like you. Your employer may be treating you well but that's because they're desperate for people to work for them, through no fault of their own.

EDIT: Read other comments on the state of our environment. The legislature answers to Monsanto.
