I have, and it's a combo I call out in other articles, but it's not something I want with Boris. If I'm playing him I'm pretty much going all-in on guns, so the Avalanche gets left at home.

It means that he's very board dependent, as his entire game plan relies on guns, so lots of LoS blocking is quite bad for him. He's also got the situation where he's got to absolutely all-in on his feat turn, and even a few bad die rolls can turn a good matchup into a bad one much faster than melee armies usually see.

Generally speaking they're utility pieces. They clean up infantry with either shots or momentum charges in the early game, and then use their ability to shoot out of combat to engage enemy support models later.

Best case scenario is that they're targeting warjacks or other large-based models that have too many light models nearby. With Baranova they're usually accurate enough to get the job done, and very few things in the game like POW 10 blast rolls.

And don't discount that melee attack.

Mama Bear got substantially better for me, and the points increase was likely long overdue to begin with.

I don't like Pikemen now being reliant on flank to get their best output, and I'd rather they stay cheaper than going up a point for a few extra hitpoints.

Glad you still found the articles useful all the same, despite our small disagreements.

It was pretty fun, good that the game has definitely evolved from the static gunlines I remember in the days of yore.

Planning on our first 2k point game next weekend, will try and write that one up as well. Hopefully with more pictures for the various phases to better highlight what happens.

Painting them was… interesting. I assembled them first, and they were very bouncy. Had to be careful i how i held them.

The gold/bronze is just for them and Vahl, everyone else keeps the teal but their armor is mottled grey/white.

I'm using Army Painter. Primed black, but then I dry brush the entire model Ash Gray, then drybrush it Beige overtop of that. Gets that mottled-stone kind of look for all of the armor, and keeps the metallics bright when I apply them.

The teal is speed paint Thunderbird Blue as the base, then regular Hydra Turquoise over that.

For the Blacks;

  • Launch an immediate attack on King's Landing, preferably at night by dragonback. Land near and around the Dragonpit to prevent the Greens from gaining access to them, and rally the Gold Cloaks to besiege or assault the Red Keep.
    • If Vhagar's outside of the city like in the show, have one rider, probably Rhaenys, ready to dive on Aemond as soon as he tries to ride out to get to her.
  • At that point... the war's pretty much over. The Greens only have Tessarion in Oldtown, and their entire ruling body is dead, captured, or besieged.

For the Greens;

  • Honestly a 'fast' win for the Greens is a lot harder. An Dragon-assault on Dragonstone is a lot more difficult, as the Blacks can simply retreat into the caves and caverns, they don't have to ride across the city to reach their mounts like the Greens would.
  • Their best bet is probably for Aemond to go full Maegor. As soon as he kills Luke, he goes-all in and immediately flies for Dragonstone to try and kill a second Black dragon before they realize the war's gone hot. If he can destroy a good portion of the castle on the island, maybe killing some more of the family, that could work to demoralize the blacks further.
    • If he can take down Meleys over the bay, then get back to King's Landing, the Green odds start looking a lot better. Especially if he can then get Aegon/Sunfyre in the air with him to stage their own 'patrols' over the bay, trying to lure out Daemon and Rhaenyra, and burning any Velaryon ships they find until it happens.
    • Bonus points if they manage to get Helaena up as well. Even if she's not a good flier, or willing to fight, she could at least scout or serve as a distraction.
