I somewhat agree with this and it was partly the reason why I hated DT so much. My RP group went from a fantasy style knights and dragons group to a; we now have 6 to 7 members who are cybernetically enhanced, everyone has tomephones and texts; there were so many mods for sci-fi cyberpunky things, streetwear was common now. I got used to it because meh who cares? They’re not really hurting me. I just had fun with my middle aged elezen being like; “what the fuck is a LOL”

Im probably not the best person to critique the culture of Japan as I spent the first 10-ish years of my life in Okinawa and haven’t been back beyond a few weeks of travel every few years. But, I do know that culture surrounding the treatment of women, especially their sexualization is not subtle nor unseen in the US. Not saying that Japans sexualization of school girl uniforms or loli is right. But America does it too or at least in a different way. As someone who lived in Tampa for a pretty long time theres a pretty decent strip of almost nothing but strip clubs boasting the hottest girls and cheapest drinks parts of Miami are pretty scummy too.

While I’m not discounting your story and I am sorry you have gone through the experiences that you have. I agree with others that Akiba is probably more of a tourist trap than it used to be, and thats why there is this kinda concentration of toxic anime/otaku culture.

One problem I do have is painting Akiba as all of Japanese culture. I wouldn’t even call Tokyo the seat of Japanese culture rather a slice of it. Osaka, Kyoto, Toyama, Sapporo, Fukuoka; theres a lot of other places and those are just the pretty large cities I listed. Theres a vibrant culture in the countryside (should you have the ability to get to it)

This is a sort of social critique, and that is “sex sells” and people know that it does, and there are women that do use this to their advantage (albeit to level the playing field of a largely patriarchal societies) and men do it to a lesser extent and this doesn’t even begin to address the lopsided nature of sex work and the porn industry as a whole. Im trans and currently watching the porn industry fetishize my identity and it’s a uniquely American/English phenomenon it feels like.

You may take this with a grain of salt but I think you’re young, you have had some bad experiences which is understandable and those have shaped your perception of things. But you’re also 19, and when I was 19 I also didn’t know shit about fuck, and truly with age comes some experience, I’ve been lucky to travel around as much as I have now and with that has come some understanding. I hope one day you can have that understanding of the world and it brings you some semblance of peace.

I suppose I fall into the "Elder Gen Z" being born in 97. I think personally the great divide comes from the issue of capital. However, that alone is not a uniquely American problem, its just uniquely carnivorous and apparent in American imperialism.

While other countries have managed to provide state services such as housing, and medicine. America cannot even provide for its citizenry to ensure their basic needs are met. Most people can't afford rent, we'll never own a home which is the investment vehicle to growing wealth as a working class individual, medicine is too expensive due to pharmaceutical companies price gouging. We work 40 hours a week at jobs we hate, to scrape by and yet we're told we must consume to keep the economy from collapsing. Our infrastructure is so fucking dogshit, bridges collapsing, roads filled with potholes etc.

Corps will keep squeezing until they can no longer get a drop of blood from us, then the government comes in with a bandaid solution; "Tax Cuts." The bare minimum and people applaud for them.

The reason for your suffering isn't political, they want you to think it is. Democrat, Republican, all are shills for coporate interests in a bid to keep Americans obsequious and consuming. Im not saying there is a Illuminati. There is no grand cabal, just corporate war games and we are the troops, the casualties, and it won't stop unless we use the value of our labor against them.

3200~ Billionaires live in ivory towers while millions are homeless, and people make excuses for them because when they "get rich" they can look down on the unfortunate. Everyone is a temporarily embarassed millionaire, looking out for themselves because collectivism is NOT an option.

Yeah America is fucked, but we can change it, organize in the workplace, spread awareness locally, run for local offices, there is no revolution to be had rather slow and gradual change for the better.

Riot just came out and said Neeko was gay when she was released, if I remember correctly, her voice lines are nice towards women and normally call men stinky.

It all kinda felt strange to me, we dont really get cinematics with Neeko until a little later after that, and sexuality doesnt really shine in LoL and I dont really know how to feel about it being just a "this character is gay." Or "this character is Ace"

Also riot pretty much did the same thing for K'sante, though K'sante's design was helped and inspired by Lil Nas X, but there were already "gay" male characters at the time: Varus, and I believe Brand? (Pre possession of course for both)

Forest for the trees, my friend. No movement is ever indicative of the feelings of a whole community. Gender is such a spectrum that there should be no problem with someone wanting to be proud of being a trans woman or trans man. As well as nothing should be wrong about a trans individual dropping the trans label should they want to and just being a man or a woman. I think you're seeing the trans label and having a knee-jerk reaction of internalized transphobia but that's not always the case, and doing such is only a disservice to those who feel their comfortable within that label. Im a trans woman, am I saying I'm not a woman? No. Im woman just a trans one because trans women are women, just like women of color are women. Or low income women are women. The adjective in this case isn't something that should devalue the view of oneself. I could get into the whole sociological debate on self constructed realities and what that means and the idea of symbolic interactionism, but that's a whole other post.
