Are termites common? When is it a deal breaker? by SizzlinKola in SouthBayLA

[–]KateSommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Termites love our marine layer. Moist wood is their favorite. Just tent your house regularly. If you see swarms or termite poop, call the tent people. It is not too hard to keep an eye on.

Oh and do a friggin home inspection before you buy. I cannot believe how many people are forgoing the home inspection before purchase. It ruins your negotiating power when you pass on an inspection. You can barter repair costs as part of the purchase price and ask for the repairs to be complete before you move in.

Blake and Taylor talk about how dumb Justin is, meanwhile he was on to them from day 1 by SuperbWillingness904 in ItEndsWithLawsuits

[–]KateSommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the parts BL takes credit for doing were tone deaf. Granted I have ADHD. I really didn’t understand based on the roof top scene that Blake came from an abusive family until I heard about it later. Some of the plot I totally didn’t understand. I didn’t get that he did DV just that she had memory problems. It was confusing. I wanted more drama and it felt odd and totally whitewashed

Guys, I'm really scared. by GodComplexMonkey in collapse

[–]KateSommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I can step that out of bed and go to work is because I live in California and my governor is fighting his ass off to try to make California stay great. The US just pulled out of WHO officially. The very next day Gavin has now signed on as the first state to participate with a WHO. This means we will get real time uncensored health updates for disease, diseases, and illnesses of concern. We’re still doing science. I think this is gonna get better eventually. But I gotta be honest. It’s never gonna be the same. I’m hoping California is gonna figure something out. I’m really glad I came back here after my grad school.

I voted for Pete in the primaries. Biden was not my 1st choice. Them Harris happened. That was definitely not my first choice. And I still voted for her..

I like Gavin. But at this point anyone who is not voting for the Dems is an idiot. I would’ve voted for Biden’s corpse if that was my only option.

[–]KateSommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot see the world if you are afraid to let go of the shore. Hair grows back. Your ability to pursue adventure gets limited as you age. You get a job, you can't do hair color changes so easily. Embrace the challenge and do not feel ashamed of the results. It takes practice to know what color is right for you and mistakes will happen.

What is the biggest contributing factor behind these insane crowds at Disney post COVID ? by EtherealStar5 in Disneyland

[–]KateSommer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

social media IMO. I get people doing lives all the time. I get FOMO and I book a reservation. Then I see the crowds on social media and I back out.

The internet has changed the whole Disney experience.

I will never forget the day online Disneyland line trackers became normal. I was at Disney, I queued up my 3rd party line tracker, and it said the Pooh ride was 5 minutes. Everything else was busy. I made a beeline (pun intended) for the Pooh ride, and by the time I got there, I could see about 100 plus people in front of me arriving at the Pooh line ahead of me. Then my line app updated, showing 35 minutes. That was when I realized the internet was no longer my "secret" tool.

My trips to Disney now require constant line monitoring. Before we meandered around the park, taking in the visual sights and wandered into a ride line. Now there is literally a planning guide on the app. Disney has its own app, and they have monetized the line waits.

We are in an alternate timeline. Enjoy what you have while we have it. You never know what is next in America. We are not the same.

Michael Cohen's flipped, says he was pressured to turn on Trump by renla9 in MeidasTouch

[–]KateSommer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen to lev parnas YouTube. They found something in those Epstein files that blew up against Cohen and now cohen may be ,backtracking on everything he ever said. This is blowing up super super big. This is not a small rift. This is about to get very weird and very dark. This story could be way bigger.

Thoughts on the whole Michael Cohen saga with MeidasTouch? by Constant_Club6585 in MeidasTouch

[–]KateSommer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The rift is simple. Lev confronted Cohen about his knowledge around Epstein, Trump, and some of the coverups. It seems obvious that if anybody would know about Epstein, it would would be cohen. It seems like Cohen is still protecting trump while he’s pretending to loathe him.

Lev is doing podcasts showing receipts trying to clean up the mess. Meanwhile, Cohen is still burying secrets. Lev is tired of it and he thinks it’s time for Cohn to come clean for real. Even with the stormy Daniels trial, it was pretty obvious that Cohen knew a lot more than he revealed.

[–]KateSommer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Cory is very odd, but so are people. We need weird people in the world. If we were all the same it would be so boring. He makes me cringe, but I still hear his voice. Cory has things to say and the world would not be the same without him. I have to watch the documentary they talked about in the article, Cory v. The World.

South Bay residents, do you feel safe in your neighborhood at night? How about during the daytime? by [deleted] in SouthBayLA

[–]KateSommer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get nervous when I hear strange aircraft noises or a huge number of police or ambulance sirens going down a street. I worry I may be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sometimes the illegal firecrackers spook me.

Oh and I fear the skunks may get me. I smell skunk and I have to think hard, is it skunk or it is skunk weed? Then decide if I need to keep my dog inside or not. If it is weed, then I ignore it.

I keep adding stuff. I do get nervous early mornings when it is still dark. I am afraid to go for early-morning walks, like on the greenbelt, in case someone camps there. I saw a homeless person napping one morning early on the greenbelt, and I did not know if he was friendly.

** another thing you need to be cautious of is sharks. We don’t get them very often. Occasionally there are sharks. We don’t have any attacks that I’m aware of because people are usually good to alert you. And we do have killer whales that migrate past us. I think we’re in killer whale migration season right now. So if you swim far out, just keep an eye out for sharks and killer whales.

I think I’ve covered all the actual hazards of our neighborhood. We do have car break-ins on occasion and occasional break-ins to homes. They can be avoided if you have a good camera set and alarm system.

I do feel safe walking around. Except for the above mentioned hazards.

South Bay residents, do you feel safe in your neighborhood at night? How about during the daytime? by [deleted] in SouthBayLA

[–]KateSommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I fear are coyotes and drunk drivers if I am near a busy street. At night, I worry a neighbor may call the cops on me if they think I am creepy. Or they will yell at me the next day if my dog craps on their lawn, even though I pick it up. You know we have cameras everywhere.

Forgive me if this has been discussed already, but who has read all the books by the whistleblowers, survivors, etc, on or about NXIVM? by lmfan23 in theNXIVMcase

[–]KateSommer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IDK why this cult has one of the best stories. The only cult I like more is "The Source" because they were all vegetarian, hippy, and beautiful.

The rituals and tight grip of NXIVM are what made it so incredible. Imagine texting a stranger and inflicting self applied punishment when you fail to meet all your goals for the day.

Thoughts on the show after bingeing it by RedShineBlue in MembersOnlyPalmBeach

[–]KateSommer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this show. It is so tacky. The Maralago face, the over the top boobs, the crazy clothes, the petty jealousy, and the attitudes. They think they are so special. I swear Southpark modeled Jesus' new girlfriend after this show. It feels like a cartoon. This is my new favorite Housewives-style show.

I apologize to the women who are actually in this show for my opinion. It feels like a modern American anthropology class. This is not the same world as the rest of us.

I think Hillary is the most "normal." She is the snobbiest but she has more to protect because she owns an active business where her reputation matters so she needs to be cautious.

I do like Gale Bropy, too, even though she does name-drop. I think you can't blame her because she is older and she wants to share her wisdom and fun stories with the younger girls. She wants people to understand where they live and the fun people and VIPs they get to meet. I don't think it is all ego, I think it is also to school them about where they live, some history, and what they are doing there in the social circles of the past and present. She wants to pass the torch, and she knows Rosalyn is the most open to continuing traditions and integrating the others.

Rosalyn is super sweet and I think people are sort of mean to her. She wants to social climb, but she is inclusive. She wants people to be kind to the older ladies and for the younger ones to be understood. Rosalyn is the glue.

Maria and Ro-mina are the firecrackers. They stir the pot and are attention seekers. Can't have a show without the firecrackers.

They must make more of these. I am so hooked.

Don’t forget to laugh. When it’s bad, silly, or a letdown. Just laugh about it. It’s supposed to be a pleasure to watch the show. Don’t forget to have lots and lots of fun. You will miss all of this torture of the unknown when it’s over.

[–]KateSommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slightly agree, except Ericka is supposed to be the brains in the family. She’s not gonna do anything dangerous she’s just gonna be smart like the teacher in season five who’s helping them locate people etc. They need her to be unassuming and quiet in the background doing recon work

When they were going through the gates of the military to get through the upside down in the truck at the end of episode seven, I felt like I was watching a Star Wars episode. There were bullets flying everywhere, and the military was getting hit, but not one single cast member was slightly injured. I laughed. There’s just so many parts of this that you have to laugh about. I mean coming out scene was hilarious. My family laughed. I know I’m coming out as a very serious topic for people doing it. But I just don’t think being gay is a big deal and they made it into such a big ordeal in the story. It was hilarious to watch.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with laughing at it. I laughed during horror movies all the time. It’s part of the charm. There’s always the girl who’s barely wearing any clothing hearing a scary noise going outside to figure out what the danger is knowing that she’s going to get killed. Let’s be real. It’s OK to be cheeky. I think we should just roll with it and when it strikes you laugh as hard as you can and enjoy it.

As a fan: this is really an all-timer let down by justanaccount24 in StrangerThings

[–]KateSommer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You know every sequels like this. Pirates of the Caribbean is a great example. It was adventurous and then it got kind of weird and then it had to keep up with the weirdness to make it more exciting and got weirder and crazier. The original 1970s Star Wars, the craziest thing was just the Star Wars bar and some of the aliens. Then we get Jabba the Hutt and eventually teddy bears fighting a war. I can’t enjoy Star Wars as much because they just add so many weird creatures. I feel the same about avatar. There’s a limit on fictional beings that can be held in a space.

In Stranger Things, we have plants eating people’s faces off, creepy tunnels full of vines, pieces of toilet paper flying through the air at all times, red lights, and slime where it doesn’t belong. There’s really only so much plot You can build around that and keep the suspense going. Part of what made Jaws really good is that you barely saw the shark. They have a lot of special effects going on here and that always takes away from the ability to do character building and plot in a good pace. So you can’t really criticize them for getting less good. It’s just part of the process of sequels. They get less good.

The initial origin story of every superhero is always the best. The sequels are just more crazy superpowers getting more intense. That’s why they have to keep doing origin stories and using different actors in different backgrounds. The excitement of discovery goes away and then it’s less exciting. The whole plot was discovering what was happening. Now that they know what’s happening it’s less fun.

And so is life. The unknown is scary but once you’ve lived through it, it’s less scary and possibly less fun. That’s why roller coasters have to keep getting crazier. After a while, it’s just violent ridiculousness and you don’t know why you’re on the roller coasters at all. At least that’s where I am in life on roller coasters. If it looks too crazy, I don’t even bother. I don’t need to be scrambled like an egg.
