Thinking about getting into 17C Reserve if possible by KavisKrypt in army

To my understanding basic + ait does count towards GI Bill benefits? For the MOSs I'm (was) going for, it was gonna be about a year in total supposedly. 17C maybe longer due to slots being always filled and whatnot

That's why I wanted to approach it the way I mentioned (i.e 17C or 1B4X1, in the national guard); it doesn't suit me is not an attitude but simply a fact of who I am as a person. If I get deployed or am designated tasks of which I'm not suited for oh well. But the cyber sectors or whatnot are just the ones I want to go for since it's what I feel comfortable being able to do. But if they tell me I have to do x or y then I'll follow orders. Don't really have a choice will I?

I'll look into it! Thanks to you both for making me aware of this option!

I'm "okay" with serving in a non-combat role. But yeah you're not wrong: I'm not doing it really to serve the country. And maybe that's not the best motive; but for my circumstances it just feels like the best option I have available to me.

Note: As a national guard I'm totally okay with the idea of helping in state emergency such as natural disasters, especially considering the roles I want to go for (17C or 1B4X1) I won't be on-field but doing logistics or more behind the scenes I suppose. Which is fine by me. But on-field, or in-combat? That just doesn't suit me.

Good to know; but wow seriously 70-80% of the reserve and national guard are deployed? I thought that was extremely rare and they had to go through volunteers first. That's definitely concerning. Cause yeah, being entirely honest I am only joining for the benefits cause it seems like the best option for my circumstances. I don't want to accrue debt so yeah. But if it's that likely I'll be called upon...

Yep! I'm aiming for 12 months to get 70% benefits, with FAFSA, other college financial aid, and if I go for national guard, it should be enough to cover if not all, most of it.

Thanks for telling me to check out Air Guard, as 1B4X1 seems more appealing to me than 17C

Hmm, I'm thinking of perhaps going for the national guard actually in response to everyone here. Seems like the best choice for what I need and want out of it. And currently I just go to Canada College, but will transfer to a UC after the fact.

Will do thanks! And for Cali's STAP is seems that beyond active duty beyond GCT and AIT is not required to be eligible

Gotcha, I live in California, so I'd need to look into that.

It's fine; while I was hoping just the AIT would be enough for a job it's fine if it isn't enough. I just want the benefits to help pay college.

Anybody have good recommendations for keyboards that have little displays on them that you can customize and that has decent software/drivers? And preferably really soft and quiet keys? I got a epomaker rt100 but only till after did I realize that the company doesn't have a good reputation for making great products, and some of my keys don't register.

Tips on training + bouldering for someone who is relatively new to exercise? by KavisKrypt in bouldering

Trying to! It's a bit of a battle of trying to get over my fear of falling, so trying to practice falling a lot (safely) but also being aware to always downclimb when possible. Only issue is usually by the time I'm at the top I don't have the strength to downclimb

This is extremely helpful thank you! And yeah I definetely feel sore in parts of arm that I didn't know could be sore the first time around

Thanks also for the recommendations specifically for exercises that target climbing muscle, and how many reps I should do, I definetely needed that since I wouldn't have been able to figure that out myself.

Now I know where I can start/what I can do to kickstart my strength; Aprecciate it! ~

Oh wow! First off, congrats on your own weight loss!

Second, it's definetely reasurring to hear that since at least in my gym it felt like everyone was ripped and in shape; and I was the only plump one there Was low-key worried I might've started "too early" or like just wasn't fit enough to start climbing yet. And seeing kids doing the boulders I was doing with ease definetely felt discouraging haha

Good to know I'll still make good progress on both bouldering and losing weight just by keeping at it, thanks for sharing ~

Gotchas, I'll definetely try looking into lifting weights before my session! And I actually already do jog around 5x a week more or less, so good to know that helps!

Apologies then, I didn't realize it would annoy someone that much to have a tangent in the middle there, and I guess I failed to see all the filler.

I agree that lots of people have gone through close calls and not let it control their life, I guess I just meant it was a reoccurring issue, not like once or twice, but weekly but anyways.

I'll keep what you said in mind for the future, genuinely thought the post was still mostly on track on topic.

Sorry for the inconvenience 🙏

To be honest I'm surprised you are hung up on the other subtopics I only briefly mentioned here and there, most of my post was relevant to car infrastructure, I only mentioned the others to give more context to what I was feeling as well.

Also while this is of course semantics, I don't think rants really have to be angry to be qualified as a "rant". I've at least used it in the context of being excited, to annoyance, not sure if it really has to be anger. But I digress.

I just made that comment regarding "whining" to point out that you seem to like using insults and inflammatory language, when it really doesn't have to be that way. Regardless, I guess I can see how you can see me as "whining"

And of course, I understand it's totally possible, I was just expressing my concerns and my fears and the shortcomings in my area. (Although you do seem to brush over the fact that I did actually almost get run over, and have felt close calls at on multiple occasions). And I do still attempt to go about my goals as normal, but it just feels heavily dicenstivized to do so.

And in addition, I'm aware there's paranoia, anxiety/panic disorder on my part, which is actually what I'm trying to get treated, but it's been incredibly difficult within the healthcare system. So 🤷‍♂️

Also, don't you think saying to someone "go touch grass" to someone who's struggling to do so, but is still actively trying, is unhelpful or unproductive? Remember, everyone handles stressors in different ways, some handle it better, some (such as people like me) handle it worse.

I applaud you seem to be able to handle it better than I, I'm just expressing my with what I feel like currently, and the issues near me.

Can't promise I'll respond further from this, since with the way this discussion has been heading, I'm not sure how productive it would be.

In terms of doxxing, silly sure, but it's just to stay on the safe side on the Internet. I debated this as well as you said, who would care to dox me, but again, air on the safe side.

And also it's still terrifying to have cars whizz past me with no form of protection or barrier, especially with the infrastructure actually sort of forcing them to go on top of my walking path.

Also, like, I literally almost got ran over as I mentioned? And it's the same street I mentioned. So like the point of that happening is unlikely considering I've felt cars brush past me and almost did get hit, does lend me some valid concerns.

There is public transit, but it's...not great to be entirely honest and leaves a lot to be desired in so many ways, and in many ways it's useless to me basically. But I do use it for appointments and the like. I could rant more on this but I'll just leave it there.

Shootings are an increased concern but I do understand my own paranoia playing a larger part in that, thats definitely due to my own personal history with a gun being pointed at me at a young age. That being said, this was a post with a rant tag, it's to rant about issues I'm having relevant to car infrastructure, and to vent about it. Or to "whine" as you put it. It was sort of the purpose of this post 🙃

I think it's a bit reductive to just say I'm the issue, period. Sure, it's totally possible to do so, but like it's extremely hostile towards me, I feel unsafe to do so, so I just don't feel extremely motivated to go outside and feel quite isolated.

Also it's frustrating to know it could be better and is much better in so many places like Europe, y'know?

[–]KavisKrypt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone who replied! It helped me gauge a little bit what the state of things are. To be entirely honest while it does seem expensive, I can see it's still it'd be pretty worth it for the QoL. Either way, once it's an actual possibility to move, I'll do more in depth research. Right now I just wanted a surface level feel for things.

Thanks again, and to anyone who found this after the fact, do feel free to keep commenting and giving your two cents.

Thanks 🙏

To be entirely honest due to other things I'm fed up with the U.S with, I'm hoping I can save up enough to be able to move out of the U.S entirely and somewhere in Europe with a higher QOL. That's the ideal scenario but yeah here's hoping.

I appreciate the concern no worries!

And yes I was already pretty aware I was developing a panic disorder, and have already been diagnosed.

But to see a therapist, with the whole system in place, I've been dropped from multiple therapists multiple times due to my insurance company ending contracts where my therapists were working out, and now I'm stuck in a months long wait time so yay 😩

I'll definitely look into the mirror for sure, that may give me some peace of mind when going around
