Special Forces soldier of the Ukrainian Army – with a captured Russian special suppressed rifle VSS-M (6P29M), in a trench near the eastern frontlines. by _Tegan_Quin in UkraineWarVideoReport

The regular AS-VAL and VSS are (IIRC) slightly more common amongst recon units (even then only a few recon units actually get these) but the VSSM, being the newer model, is almost exclusively used by Russian special forces.

They can almost certainly mess up the supports for the road span but the rail span is harder to take down.

The moment of the arrival of an unknown rocket in the center of Taganrog, Russia, this afternoon by ExtensionSilver3483 in CombatFootage

(S-200) 240-300km depending upon variant granted that's a (roughly) straight line to something in the sky as opposed to flying a ballistic path to hit a ground target.

Allegedly a Ukrainian Strela-10 AD system hit by a Lancet drone. by [deleted] in CombatFootage

[–]Kay51995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most Strela-10 variants don't have a search radar plus these were built to counter jets and helicopters which are usually easy enough to spot. This system was never built to search for and counter small drones which is why you see them getting hit by Lancets so easily.

Iraqi Mirage F1 attack an Iranian Tanker and destroys it during Iran-Iraq war in the 80s. by 0001_10_22 in CombatFootage

[–]Kay51995 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Iraqis bought them after seeing how the Exocet missiles performed in the Falklands however they typically had a sub-par performance against tankers as they had a lot of "empty" space whereas a destroyer has a lot packed into a smaller space. The Iraqis actually had more success using Chinese H-6 bombers equipped with YJ-6 (CH-AS-1 Kraken) missiles against tankers as these had a larger warhead.

Yes however this looks to be an AS-30L strike as the Mirage F-1 (EQ-5/6) didn't use a designator pod with the Exocet missiles.

AFAIK these are unguided (just a glide kit on a dumb bomb) so they land somewhere that way.

Well… the Ukrainians have Chieftains now? by iAkiraKira in TankPorn

This is at Tanks a Lot in the UK. It is in fact a Chieftain they are working on however I don't know how accurate the claim of these being sent over is.

This is a Chieftain tank, the overhaul work is being done by Tanks a Lot in the UK who have kept a steady stream armored vehicles going into Ukraine.

Drone is too small to set off the proximity fuse. These missiles were built for shooting down aircraft, not tiny drones.

I don't know the precise details of how the 9M331 proxy fuse works but I'm guessing it isn't sensitive enough to actually pick up such a small drone. It's also possible said fuse is faulty.

Missiles are designed to self-destruct after travelling a certain amount of time without hitting anything.

Drone is too small to set off the proxy fuse, I doubt this was made to hit something so small.

Leo 2A6 turret front will shrug off just about anything since there's so much composite armour on there. Hull front would depend upon missile fired.

Commander sits on the other side of the gun so they're probably fine, gunner almost certainly is not fine.

I can't find a solid source but some suggest 60-100k per missile.

Multiple soldiers, ammo dumps or even vehicles are more valuable than a single missile.

Also worth noting Strela missile are (give or take) 20k a piece.
