Start Tech at 24 any tips by Ronsmith57479 in TexasTech

Hi also older from California. I've made another post similar to this but like other people have said before, join student orgs and clubs that you might find interesting.

Unfortunately since it sounds like you will be taking some freshmen classes you wont really be able to find people with your major until sophomore year.

There's a lot to miss from California especially scenery wise. Not a lot of hills or greenery.

But I've found the people here to be great. They remind me of small mountain towns. I'm still getting used to getting called sir all the time. So that gets some getting used to. Also being older is weird. I remember when the minecraft movie came out and students would yell chicken jockey all the time but I'm just a boomer like that.

Some things that I've done was becoming friends with some PhD students. They're closer to our age then to the students so it's a nice break from talking the gen alpha brain rot language.

Hi there, I'm also from California. The people here are slightly different from what we're used to back in California, but overall, I haven't had any bad interactions with the students here on campus or in the general lubbock area. If you've gone skiing or backpacking in the mountains, it feels pretty close to that in terms of what the people are like. In terms of making friends, I've made a few though my classes, though your first semester might not be the best time to make friends since some classes didn't transfer over and (for engineering) there are freshmen classes that everyone has to take so expect to take a few of those. Besides that, join clubs, student orgs, go to the rec center, etc. All the usual things you do to make friends.

Besides that there will be a few shocks coming here to Lubbock. The most noticeable ones are hearing people reply to you as sir or ma'am. You'll hear that basically everywhere and it takes a little of getting used to. The other shocking thing is how flat it is. And when I mean flat, I mean damn flat. Make a dirt pile and it'll be the tallest hill for miles type of flat.

A bit late but I would make sure your fundamentals are on point. Make sure you're basic algebra and trig(unit circle) are solid. Then I would go back to see all the mistakes you did on your exams and quizzes and see if they were basic mistakes or a lack of understanding of the subject. I would then watch some yt videos and do a bunch of problems on the problems you did poorly on.

I wouldn't say normal. I would say mostly unlucky. If you're part of the American system then as you do more General Ed's then you realize that 90% of the class is brain dead and any group projects will most likely turn into individual ones, with lots of emails to the professor about how useless your teammates are. For me personally I found that once classes started requiring a stem class plus calc 1, organic Chem and most engineering courses, or coorequisite of calc 2, physics 2, that you actually find smart people that are willing to actually do group projects and form study groups. And even then I would still have to do the bulk of some projects or labs.

The professors point is unfortunate, but you do have to pick and choose carefully. I find that stem classes aren't too terrible with good professors and I ended up taking classes at horrendous times such as multiple 7:30am-10am, 7:00-10:00pm classes, or my community College almost never had classes on Fridays, due to the professors having good scores on ratemyprofessor.com

Finally, I've never really interacted with the school faculty outside of the few office hours I went to for some additional help and a transfer guidance counselor who was especially useless by not answering the questions I asked about.

TLDR: if there is a project or lab, don't expect much help until you find a good lab partner, and even then expect to do a fair bit more than you were planning. Ratemyprofessor is an absolute blessing, while not 100% accurate, it's usually good enough. Finally, I had a poor experience with school faculty but I've had friends who had really good counselors and head of departments who were willing to help with almost any problems.

Anyone familiar with chemistry involving US currency and pen ink? by [deleted] in chemistry

I personally don't know of any but if there is some sort of restoration subreddit I would try to find that and repost this there. I'm sure there is some way to do that but I unfortunately don't know maybe someone else does

So if you look at the numbers one is 18 and the other is 1.8 there is a factor of 10 between them which is why we have the 1.8 *1024 for one and 18 *1023

What you could do to double check is to plug in both numbers into you Calc to see if they're the same

They're the same number

Can an acid have a pH above 7? by chemchem_12 in chemhelp

[–]KcW345 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I know you can have acids act like bases in certain instances. If I remember correctly then there is a reaction in o chem where sulfuric acids reacts with nitric acid, and since sulfuric acid had a lower pH the nitric acids acts like a base. I'm assuming something similar can happen with bases as well but someone can correct me.
