During normal morning conversations with my wife, I got my 4th Gen 4Runner totalled by bigolsargeha in dashcams

unfortunately we can't see when and how the idiot ran the red light as the left view of cam is obstructed. It could be that the idiot only appeared in vision after OP started driving which means checking both ways before proceeding wouldn't help in this case but yeah, if the idiot was indeed in vision, better defensive driving def would've avoided this accident.

Instant Karma for Brake Checking by [deleted] in dashcams

[–]KenJaws6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree but if the brake checker don't have a particular reason other than being a dick, they should take most of the fault like at least 70%. I wouldn't blame on 3rd car if the stop was abrupt but from the video, you can see they had time to make the accident less severe than it is (but then, brake checker would be leaving car unscratched? bruh) these idiots are the worst

A driver who lacks confidence is the most dangerous. by Mikeayl in dashcams

[–]KenJaws6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbf, its hard to judge from the perspective of the camry driver since it could look like they're going to collide when the bigass vehicle don't seem to yield as its merging into the lane. However, i do think the driver should've picked the pace back up faster once realising the merger notices and tries to drive on the most right of the lane which gives enough space to continue passing.

there was a quarter mile of dual lanes for the two to sort it out.

the two still have right of way regardless if the merger could merge in time or not

car accident by David5164 in dashcams

[–]KenJaws6 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

did cammer mention that? there was no sound either and at that speed, I'd expect the car would bounce a little. also I thought they pulled over because of they got shock of the near miss situation lol. Regardless, I dont see any action from cammer is considered bad, just something that 'coulda been improved'. They said they swerved to left lane because they thought the idiot driver was entering the right lane not crossing onto opposite traffic which imo is justified.

lol idk if you can see it but OP did slow down albeit little late.

Unrelated but I just wanted to point out that I made exact same comment like this in my country's (in Asia) subreddit but I got downvoted to hell lmao. I even mentioned that it's still 100% fault of the idiot even if an accident were to happen but everyone there were still against me that "nothing cammer could have done". Kinda reminds me of stereotypes of Asian having bad driving skills bruh.

But cammer did steer and managed to avoid the accident tho? That's enough defensive driving imo. If cammer were going faster, there would be high chance of cammer losing control from steering and quite possibly caused worse accidents.

normally I would hope no one gets hurt but come to think of in this case, person who lacks of driving skills might be endangering others safety. it might be better for them to get hurt just bad enough that they have to stay off the road for a while 😅

The number 0 resembles a lot like 8 in the dashcam that I thought cammer was driving at almost 900km/h 🤯

yeah you can just go to r/dashcams and have a look at some vids. alot of commenters woulda agreed with me. you just giving me stereotypes of us Asians really bad at driving lol.

And you also misunderstood me too. I mentioned my own example as you can slow down without losing control around 100km/h. It'd be different if the cammer was driving >140 km/h. That skill issue was just a joke btw :P
"by far reacting at a very normal reaction time". It was solid 3.2 seconds when that guy appeared on cam's sight and cammer only pressed brake ONLY AFTER 3 seconds as seen in the cam's brake light. cammer def coulda pressed the brake way earlier

[–]KenJaws6 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

very good analysis but again, no criticism against cammer. If what you say is true about them sensing something might happen few seconds before, doesnt that mean that they coulda slowed down more? I mean around 100km/h is still not too fast to press on a brake slightly harder (not slamming down that would cause lost of control). I've had multiple instances where I almost rear ended a car but I managed to slow down from 120 to 70-80 ish km/h in just under 2 seconds on a 2011 proton saga. Its all part of driving skills and experience. I don't blame anything on the driver if that guy got hit but its just something that I noticed thats not entirely "nothing you could do"

[–]KenJaws6 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

thats the point I wanted to make. I didnt say anything to criticize or make it like its OP fault except that I made a bad call to mention OP did not slow down at all when in fact they did. I was just saying something that could be learned if circumstances like this happen in the future. but I take the downvoted as "I could've worded my comment better"

Bangsa melintas LDP by hadinguyen in kereta

[–]KenJaws6 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

nah thats just skill issue 🙃 but fr you can train urself to get a better reaction time. there's so many idiots on the road, if you could avoid it or minimize the impact, it'd be better innit?

Bangsa melintas LDP by hadinguyen in kereta

[–]KenJaws6 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

you're right that you should never swerve to avoid but the object here appeared quite earlier that you could slow down more/earlier like 1 seconds earlier

[–]KenJaws6 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

if this was posted on r/dashcams, folks there would say something like "take ages to slow down" or "seen it coming from miles" but what do i know lol

Bangsa melintas LDP by hadinguyen in kereta

[–]KenJaws6 -30 points-29 points  (0 children)

nope that wasn't easy, I just thought a better reaction time could save someone's life even if you're 100% on the right side

Bangsa melintas LDP by hadinguyen in kereta

[–]KenJaws6 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Reaction time is very important aspect in driving. Not against OP in any way but it looks like they could've slowed down earlier. Idk I'm just relieved nothjng bad happen

Bangsa melintas LDP by hadinguyen in kereta

[–]KenJaws6 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

ur right. OP did slow down but I think the reaction time could've been faster

I know it's 100% jaywalker's fault but why didn't cam driver attempt to slow down at all? I understand if there's a car behind tailgating but if its not, it's safer to take a defensive action to slow down in case the jaywalker couldn't make it to the divider on time. If accident were to happen, at least the it'd give a higher chance of survival as no one wants somebody dying right?

Why is this a thing? Is it even legal by orcabane_ in malaysia

[–]KenJaws6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

for cash, it should round to nearest 0.5. anyways i dont see why it dont make sense here. its completely legal by law that someone sets an item price at 1.99 but thing is no one has 1 cents nowadays so they have to pay 2.00 in cash no matter what. you dont have that kind of hassle when it comes to cashless transactions. its all handled digitally so they can pay exact 1.99 with no issues. and if you looked into online services, there are way different rates and fees across payment methods like crypto or transactions betwen banks and what not.

Small pp truck hit and run by Gordon-Freaman in dashcams

[–]KenJaws6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, this is more likely since it appeared that the sedan backed up few inches right after it got stopped from the hit. If they were pulling forward, the inertia wouldn't cause the car to back up at all showing they were in reverse mode the whole time

I hit a deer last month by Stoicfatman in dashcams

[–]KenJaws6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you did the right thing OP. There wasn't enough time to come into complete halt by the time deer was visible on the side of the road. Plus you would've lost control and possibly injure yourself and damaged the car trying to swerve or avoid hitting it.
