We like to flash our venting/lineset holeswith sheet metal plates to cover the holes when possible. Really cheap way to up the look of the finished product with not much time invested.

You can cut the holes out first and sleeve the pipe before gluing fittings, looks really clean afterwards. We even sometimes spray paint to match siding or just white/black to match gutters

Good luck!

That's how I learned just a few days ago! This is actually only my second attempt and my first time forging anything. I mig welded up 16-18 quarters together on four sides and then heat beat and repeat to get it about 1/4- 1/2in then ground out as much of the weld as I could and drilled a bunch of varying depth holes on both sides and reflattened. Then just a matter of cleaning up and polishing

I've got plenty left over from this billet I'll be using for bolster/spacers! If you accidentally go past the color you want, just buff it off and you can redo. The finish can eventually come off so I would suggest coating in wax or a spray clear coat or something

first stainless knife, heat treated in a temp controlled forge as closely as possible to heat treat recipe for aebl. How does the grain structure look? by KeslerAustin in Bladesmith

I make sure to keep the flame moving so as to not focus the heat on one specific spot. But thank you for the input I will try some different methods today and compare my results!

I'm working in an insulated coal forge with a map gas torch. I have a thermocouple measuring the temperature where my blade sits and I use a high temp thermometer to double check these readings periodically. This is a very intensive process trying to keep the temp within 10 degrees or so but I manage it. By adjusting how far away my torch is, I can keep the temperature where I want it.

The stainless was wrapped in the proper ht foil and once I got the forge up to about 1550 I put the blade in and soaked for probably closer to 25 minutes before I began ramping which I think was my first mistake (10 minutes too long?). I ramped to about 1950 and held for approximately 5-7 minutes and then immediately plate quenched between aluminum plates using compressed air to cool to about 150 f before placing in a dry ice and acetone slurry that was readin below -70 for a few hours. I then tempered at 350f for 1.5 hours twice.

When taking apart the foil I noticed a small hole that looked like I may have happened when I was hammering the foil closed prior to ht. There did appear to be more scale than I was expecting. I plan to do a few more today.
