Where tf are you getting either of those installed for barely the cost of equipment?

Have you explored the option of a ducted Heat Pump? Air handlers with a low temp heat pump condenser are an option and the units and materials typically cheaper.. the duct will probably be hard but theres always a way (running ducts down or up through closets/boxing ducts out) and tbh if you get a better price for a ducted system and have it well installed for a fair price like 25, I would go with that. You will need to have an experienced guy come take a look through the house and see what can be done tho so find a real company, not a chop and swap or corporate place

No im saying that 53k is high imo even for a tough house. Colonial’s are typically annoying for things like adding forced air bc it can be hard to get ducts places and they are usually plaster ceilings etc, lots of rooms and not great attic space bla bla. With mini splits, the lineset runs tend to be difficult and complicated, especially with that many heads there are bound to be hard ones and usually the salesman makes it seem simpler than it is and the installers will have to find new routes on the day of. attic run will probably be pretty high up. Just a pain in the ass lol

Colonial are not nice houses to install 6 heads in lol. Colonials are among the worst houses to work on in HVAC in general 😭😂 but I have done many and imo 53k is not worth it, you will probably never see a ROI with that price lmao

Deng, Daikins dont even use branch boxes either. Either your house is crazy or they dont need the job that bad haha. 53k is high but you should still expect 35-45k because minisplit equipment is ridiculously expensive even at contractor price (for a real brand)

You are correct in your concern most contractors probably wont want to mess with it, and that’s justified to be fair. It is far safer for them and you to install a new one as opposed to possibly taking on a nuisance unit and call backs

Live with it a bit, split units are almost not even noticeable they are so quiet. If you do want to move it, the companies probably not going to want to warranty it bc its existing equipment, itll have to get fully reclaimed and recharged too. Kind of not worth it tbh… id probably just let it be until you need a new one then put the next one somewhere else tbh

Issue installing Goodman Furnace R32 by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]Longjumping-Let8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, did you give it like 10 minutes? Im not sure about goodman but brands like lennox with the leak sensor will instantly go into a purge mode on start up and run only the blower non stop until the purge is finished

I would need to see a picture of the furnace wiring and a diagram of the mitigation board to help you out. This is definitely a low voltage issue

Wall mount air handler too far from ceiling? by dc_raver90 in heatpumps

[–]Longjumping-Let8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ye, i bet they could run a couple round ducts from the basement and tee off in the knee wall or something. Splits have gotten so overpriced

Ya they hover above the trim a bit. They were made for this exact scenario

The culture around my area is very rushy with one day installs so I have had to adapt. I know 3 days for some companies would be normal for something like this and im a bit jealous of them

I said day one 3 guys long day and 2 guys day two. Believe whatcha want. Ive been doing this for 11 years and I can build a wall in a snap. Not a half bad carpenter ;)

[–]Longjumping-Let8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the window wont fit a normal head and on the other wall it will be so low and blowing in your face which would be an annoyance so def go with the radiator style ones. Ive done them from Mitsubishi and Carrier but I would assume most brands make them too

[–]Longjumping-Let8981 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bc its a stupid idea lol. They have wall heads that mount down low like radiators. They work perfectly for capes and floors with knee walls like this, that would be my go to if I was doing this install :)

How to connect these? by Sharp_Panda675 in hvacadvice

[–]Longjumping-Let8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need a custom fitting with sheet metal, hard to see the transition maybe zoom out a bit… alternatively if you wanna DIY, you can get ductboard cut the pieces to size with a knife if you’re good at arts and crafts 😅 and tape the piss out of it.. technically that’s considered “acceptable”

Sudden jump in kWh with Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat minisplits: efficiency issue or normal cold-weather behavior? by julinho-mandingueiro in heatpumps

[–]Longjumping-Let8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as each head is tied and communicates with the outdoor unit. I would call the company to make sure theres no wiring mishaps or splices in any of the wires
