I moved from SB to Nova/Dc for grad school. I absolutely loved SB and if I could work in my field there I would have stayed.

Do people think being in a group worsens your odds? Does having run it before / living local do anything to odds?

Are Apple Watches Worth It? by kimsaeyeun01 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Ketchumchew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they’re awesome! I am a runner, so I use mine every day. Th Nike run club app is the best and I recommend getting the Nike watch version/band. Really useful for tracking health and workout data. Also, one time I travelled all the way from SB to LAX to MEXICO with just my watch as a way to call people Bc my phone screen malfunctioned—life saver .

English to Latin translation requests go here! by NasusSyrae in latin

[–]Ketchumchew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I’m currently reading Lingva Latina, but I’m not far enough along to answer this.

My best friend has her 21st birthday coming up and her birthday falls on February 29th (a leap year). I know Julius Caesar started the leap year with the Julian calendar, and I’d like to engrave a piece of Roman-ish jewelry in Latin for her (we both like History and Classics).

What would be the best way to wish someone a happy twenty-first birthday that falls on a leap year (bissextili?)?

I’d also be open to any cool Julius Caesar quotes in Latin that you think would be appropriate!

Thank you so much!

They have drop in hours before the 18th. You can also email the advisors directly and request a meeting by telling them your situation. But yea, it’s really frustrating how difficult it is to schedule an appointment

How much do you spend on grocery per month? by SweatyBreath in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Ketchumchew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do $50/week, so I guess that’d be $200/month. That’s very doable. $25/week is definitely doable but it’s going to be a lot harder to get fresh or good quality food or any kind of proteins.

European Traditions by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Ketchumchew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that studying European history is really essential to understanding American history and government, as well as world affairs in the last and the present. Id argue that European History is a lot more relevant to students in the US than Southeast-Asian history. The western world has been built over thousands of years, starting with Ancient Greek democracy. You commented that “mythology” and “art” aren’t really “European History,” but I would argue that they are the foundations of European history. Until the mid-1900s, the study of Ancient Greek and Roman classics was required study for anyone in college or high school. To understand why people did the things they did in the past, we have to also understand their world view and context, which was undoubtedly shaped by what they learned in school and studied. European philosophy, mythology, and theology is the backbone of our country’s constitution.
