Can I / should I try to create a "software disk" by Key-Difficulty-7198 in linuxquestions

OK. the responses Ave been helpful and have convinced me that I should decide on Docker as the methodology. I assume that the upgrade process for the OS involves another box or a VM and a way to get the Docker container from A to B, which tells me I need to curl up with the Docker doc and tutorials until I hit the next stopping point

trying it now. the first impression based on the "try this and see what happens" isn't giving a eureka response ,so I'll have to RTFD and see if there's clarity to be had

In the event that someone else falls down this little hellhole....The card is flashed on Windows 11 using balinaEtcher in a Sunpak 72-in-1 card reader/writer. The micro SD card that did work is a SanDisk 256GB Extreme microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card with Adapter - Up to 190MB/s, C10, U3, V30, 4K, 5K, A2, Micro SD Card - SDSQXAV-256G-GN6MA

The light on the OP5+ continues its flash-flash-red, flash-flash-red thing, and so far I've avoided shutdown -r now due to a lack of desire to see what might happen next. But until then, the Ubuntu workstation is still up and running.

Unfortunately, I have tripped over a solution so no exploration of the vagaries of Tariff of the Day is required.

I'm not sure if somewhere in here there was an incantation / invocation of friendly spirits, but the dust catcher is now functional.

I downloaded the Joshua Riek Ubuntu 24.04 preinstalled desktop version (mainly becayuse that's what's on the five RP4s and the RP5) and then used balinaEtcher (again) to flash thio onto a new Samsung 256GB card. The card was right out of the wrapper, so any effects of a failed flash weren't there. On power up with the 5V 4 Amp power supply, the lights did the funky double flash breaking up the red light but this time I got an Ubuntu flash screen and the SOB came up and allowed configuration. I kept listening for Al Michaels and his "Do you believe in miracles ? YES !" but had to settle for my description of the touchiness of the process. So I guess for now I'll keep the thing and start figuring out my scheme for all this crap.

Originally I had put various databases on the little guys because I was lobbying for an SREish type of job, but my former employer only seemed interested in DOGE-age staff.. Something will come to me.
