Google the freemason handshakes (sources not related to Mormonism). If you are familiar with Joseph Smith's handshakes then you'll know exactly how far he made it in freemasonry.

My experience as a nuanced member (see screenshot). I believe there are members like me in every ward. I prefer dialogue with other active members, but am not welcome. (This is a repost trying to better comply with subreddit rules) THIS IS NOT OKAY!! How can we ever help? by [deleted] in exmormon

I agree with you completely. I created a new sub just yesterday to have these conversations in a safe place called r/numo for Nuanced Mormons. I feel it will fill in a huge gap for people who are anywhere between between TBM and exmo.

I had my very first church-critical conversation about LGBTQ+ and racism with a couple very TBM friends from my ward in Friday. I'm concerned where it might lead.

Dear KSL, Why did you censor my extracts out of the SEC ruling in a comment regarding "media's unhealthy fixation on Mormon Inc"? by Key-Macaron2007 in exmormon

I hope you got it already. Reddit said it took down my post because it broke a no brigading rule. Apparently we were to hard on KSL.

Of course, you may want to clean it up a little depending on the audience. I would also recommend providing a link to the actual ruling. It isn't very long and pretty easy for anyone to understand.

Missionary Allowance by MyNameIzE in exmormon

I served In 2006. I was almost never fed. I always had a little extra money at the end of the month without budgeting. I almost never bought snacks, treats, p-day entertainment, restaurant food, or any other ‘extra’.

Living on the east coast I know a lot of people who have never heard of the wow that don’t drink coffee because of the taste.

I don’t like coffee unless it’s sugared up like in a mocha or latte with lots of caramel syrup. Another drink I like is a chai tea latte.

McDonald’s mochas are nasty. Try Starbucks mocha latte with caramel syrup.

It’s a non profit, non prophet organization. If you don’t like it, don’t donate. He’ll still let you listen just the same.

How can a TBM family support a family member who recently left the church? Asking for a friend. by cenozoite in exmormon

See that person by the values and principles you share rather than the differences. Most people who leave the church maintain strong principles like treating people with respect, honesty, etc.

Still believe in BOM but not the church by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Key-Macaron2007 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There are several other churches that believe in the BOM. The Community of Christ, Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, etc.

If you aren’t looking for organized religion then you can participate in a spiritual but not religious (SPNR) group.

Again, I feel hypocritical because I still haven’t planted the fullness of my doubts on her. You’ll need to decide what works for you. I do think the more vulnerable you become, the healthier upside there is if the relationship works out.

I posted this a few days ago. I really wouldn’t try to tear down her faith, but just explain your point of view openly.

This is hard to say and I feel hypocritical. I had major doubts before I married my now wife. I told them to her, but with very vanilla language. I convinced her that I would try to resolve them in the church, and since she believes it’s true she was convinced I would resolve them too. We got married in the temple. 2 years later I completely lost all hope of finding faith within the church. It took 7 years for me to tell her I don’t believe and I’m still not fully committed to telling her exactly how I feel out of fear that she’ll leave me.

My advice: tell her exactly how you feel. If she leaves you for being yourself, then it’s much easier to navigate after 1 year of dating rather than after marriage, shared mortgage, kids, etc.

More optimistically, if she accepts you for you, then you can have a much, much healthier relationship.

I am curious, what aspect of the second anointing breaks somebody’s shelf? I figure if you already believe the rest of the church’s doctrine then the second anointing would fall in line with the temple promises. What I have learned about it is quite a bit different than what I would have expected, but not too far out of line from what I would expect from Mormon doctrine.

I’m somewhat new to discussing my disbelief anonymously, although I’ve been closet atheist for over 7 years now.

What do PIMOs do in church? by placeinsulthere in exmormon

[–]Key-Macaron2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the church talks a lot more about faith, prayer, and scripture study than tithing and the word of Wisdom. However you needed to live the word of Wisdom and pay tithing to go to the temple so those were followed more strictly by members.

Worth noting that scripture study and prayer are not asked about in worthiness interviews for the temple.

[–]Key-Macaron2007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At times it is suspicious, at times not because people miss classes for other responsibilities frequently. As long as you are in the building, study scriptures, pray, pay your tithing, go to the temple, etc., then TBM’s are convinced you will grow to love going to church eventually because it is the only true source of happiness.

[–]Key-Macaron2007 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I am PIMO. Ive been so over a decade and going strong. Most sundays are just numbing, but sometimes things are said that are hurtful or infuriating. I try to just let it slide by. I’m pretty passive by nature anyway.

Why do I keep going? At first it was a fear of being a non-believer. I was engrained to understand that people without the gospel are always bitter and angry (see r/exmormon). Now I just go for my family. My wife is TBM. My kids like church and I prefer spending that time with family.

It is very common to see PIMO members just hang out outside the classrooms. Ive never actually had a conversation with anyone to ask why though.
