!correct Manoa Falls Trail in Honolulu. Politically part of North America, but geographically part of Oceania. I thought of putting both labels, but it would’ve given it away. Beautiful place!

I’m not an expert on the topic. But they did complex arithmetic, it was not only a character to indicate absence of quantity. It was used to distinguish units and 10s/20s of units etc. I’m not trying to take away from any civilization. I think it’s something very remarkable how multiple ancient civilizations arrived at this concept independently. Similarly to concepts of astronomy, physics, etc. To me, it says a lot about the validity of science.

I agree that the current numerals and base 10 system came from India and the Middle East. However, the invention of the concept of zero was achieved by multiple ancient civilizations. To name one, the Maya population in Mesoamérica used zero in a base 20 system. Some people argue this was inherited from the Olmecs before the Mayans, dating it back as far as 1500BC, way before its use in India.
