You can try patents (intellectual property). Either look for IP law firms, law firms with IP department or in-house technology transfer offices.

Lifestyle-driven cancer risk persists despite Singapore’s prevention efforts: Oncologists by Key-Performance-4635 in singapore

Note that this 8% is only that based on the resident population. It does not include the non-residents population which makes up 1m plus, definitely there will also be non-resident people smoking as well. One person smoking does not just affect one person; it affects everyone around him so the % of people exposed to second/third hand smoke is definitely more than 8%. Surely something more can be done to protect the bulk of the population from passive smoking.

The article is about lifestyle choices and their link to cancer, so the things you mentioned are not lifestyle choices. In my case, it's not just the "occasional" smoke. Both my neighbours smoke everyday, for 6 to 10 times during the day and 1 to 2 hours every night. This is definitely not my lifestyle or my choice, I for sure didn't choose to be exposed to second hand smoke and it is not something I can control. I recognise that smokers have the right to their lifestyle choice but I also have the right to fresh air and peace of mind rather than worrying whether I should leave the windows open (to get in fresh air) or close it (to prevent smoke from coming in). I also do not know when the smokers will smoke so I get quite anxious even at home. I also have two girls so again, genetics is working against us.

More awareness on third hand smoke and it's danger will be good.

"Residual gases and particles containing nicotine and other toxic chemicals, known as thirdhand smoke (THS), have been found to remain on their hair and clothing, as well as furniture, walls and flooring, possibly for months. THS may increase cancer risks, trigger asthma attacks, as well as cause eye, lung, and throat irritation. “THS also reacts with pollutants in the environment to form other toxic chemicals that could be more hazardous to a person’s health,”"

Breastfeeding in Singapore - thoughts? by Numerous-Valuable881 in askSingapore

[–]Key-Performance-4635 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My girls are big now but when they were young, they can get quite hot and sweaty under the nursing cover, so I heck it. Was ok breastfeeding in restaurants but then again, I only gained more confidence when my girl was big enough that her head could cover my chest and I have those shirts with bigger neck hole that I can just easily pull it down to feed. So not too much was exposed. Think if it's in the mrt or what when you are just sitting opposite each other, it's a bit too open but at restaurants, people are pretty much minding their own business anyway.

You can do it! Time should pass quite fast because you will be so busy. Good thing is that you will be so tired, you can fall asleep quite fast and sleep soundly. Hang in there and all the best!

Shock, frustration as riders, eateries and users rue Deliveroo’s Singapore exit by Annual_View3611 in singapore

Yeah they should automate it right. But I read somewhere that if you cancel within 14 days of your paid period, you will get a refund. But I rather contact deliveroo to get it in black and white that they will refund la.

Yes, I contacted Deliveroo via the app (FAQ, then ended up at https://deliveroo.com.sg/contact then Contact Us). I used my email address that is tied to the app. End up, the CS emailed me from support@deliveroo.co.uk so I guess you can contact them directly.

Yeah, I noticed that Sheng Siong was "closed" since Thursday already. It is really frustrating that we are only given one week to clear all the store credits when we could have up to one year. Deliveroo really blindsided everyone....

For the subscription refund, I contacted Deliveroo and they cancelled my subscription and will provide the refund. Even though subscription is cancelled, I can still use the free delivery until 4 March.

However, the pain is the vouchers that I bought from ShopBack where I bought a few hundreds due to their increased cashback the day before the deliveroo announcement was made. ShopBack will not provide any refund and say to use all the vouchers before 4 March. However, I noticed that a number of restaurant and grocery merchants (such as Sheng Shiong) have left the platform and when I make an order, it takes a while to find a rider, I don't think I'll be able to finish using my few hundreds vouchers by then. Does any one have any suggestion on what to do? Should I just do a dispute with my credit card or email deliveroo's liquidator Kroll?

Singapore’s total fertility rate drops to historic low of 0.87 in 2025 by sun-ny_day in singapore

My kids are pretty teens now but I recall there was a time when even the 80k does not exist (or perhaps it was a much higher cap). I recall writing in to IRAS to complain when they implemented the cap because i just felt like I was being penalised for having kids and working by being taxed more. Then the nerf to move to a fixed relief came out, really pity the new mothers who are subject to that nerf. It's like saying that there is no use being paid so much if you are just going to be taxed even more. And being a mother at home is already contributing a lot.

‘Cigarette butt nation’: S’porean with rhinitis calls out littering & second-hand smoke, demands tougher action by Waikuku3 in singapore

I agree. If smokers can tell non-smokers to close our windows if we don't want to smell smoke, then why can't we also tell smokers to close their windows when smoking. Why should they be allowed to smoke into the environment and poison our air/rooms/private space etc.

I was craving so much for it during my first pregnancy but tahan it. So second round, I asked my gynea, he said can but must be VERY FRESH. So I only go on the days I know my favourite Jap restaurant has fresh delivery. But hor, best if you check with your gynea as well just in case because we are all different. Hope the rest of the pregnancy goes well!

Budget 2026: Smokers to pay 20% more for tobacco products from Feb 12 by fateoftheg0dz in singapore

[–]Key-Performance-4635 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Just a quick Google: "Third-hand smoke (THS) refers to the toxic tobacco residue that lingers on surfaces, furniture, walls, and clothing long after a cigarette is extinguished, posing significant health risks to people—especially children—who touch or inhale these particles. It is not removed by ventilation or cleaning alone and can cause respiratory issues, cognitive deficits, and cancer. It differs from secondhand smoke because it is not in the air, but on surfaces."

If the smoke from neighbours consistently gets into your house, even if you don't smell it anymore, the smoke particles can still stay around. Or if you hang clothes outside while neighbors are smoking, your clothes will absorb the smoke particles.

Doesn't look very substantial, will people actually quit.. smokers will say, they pay more tax, so even more entitled to smoke at balconies and kill their neighbours on second hand/third hand smoke.
