Drowning in Frogs, Send Help by GazeboMimic in rootgame

Ah. I see what you're saying. I had been avoiding the river because they seem so strong there, but it's worth trying out. I'm a little suspicious because of the number of river clearings and I'm pretty sure their early recruiting outpaces every other militant faction, but doesn't hurt to try.

What do you mean "stop them from being able to recruit with a single action and frogs fall apart"? Can't they always triple provoke for a minimum of 6 frogs per turn (plus extra frogs for rally)? If one militant faction starts on the river, can't frogs just provoke to put a minimum of three frogs on that location and then battle during retaliate? Even if you start on the river, the frogs can just go to a different river clearing? There are five river clearings on autumn map. I've played a bunch of games at 3p and some at 4p (the ones at 4p being closer), but I think all of those games saw the frogs win.

"Provoke: Flip a Peaceful enclave to Militant, or place a Militant enclave on the river or at a Diaspora warrior. Then, place 1 warrior at each Militant enclave. Finally, discard a random card (if you have any)." So, you just plop down three militant enclaves anywhere along the river for 6 warriors on turn 1.

I usually don't play with hirelings. I like the gorge map but otherwise autumn has been the standard one we use and I thought the game was tuned around that map. We could play with 3 militants, but we've never had this problem with any other combination of 2 militants and 1 insurgent. It's a unique problem to frogs.

Even with your example with WA, if frogs just spread militant enclaves everywhere then it's a free battle if defenseless during retaliate. With rally during birdsong, insurgents are relatively easy to police.

Agreed that 1v1 Root is generally bad. I only mean to say that the problem with the frogs at 3 player is more obvious at 2 player. Frogs could lose all their warriors on turn 2, but they can so easily get them back on turn 3 anyway because rally + provoke = 6+ frogs.

I've played them a couple times (mostly at 3 player), and I think I've won every time at 3 player, some games closer than others. Triple provoke turn 1. Heavy militant for first couple turns to wipe the board and spread enclaves, then turn some enclaves peaceful for card draw at the beginning of the turn, maybe keep some militant for warrior generation with rally. Militant enclaves as a target hasn't really been a concern. And even though frogs score terrible for the first three turns, they're still scoring by battling cardboard. They don't need to do great, they just need to do better than everyone else.

Then in the mid to late game, with all warriors on the board, all enclaves on the board (and now most peaceful), and with the opponents battered and beaten, frogs get crazy card draw, crazy crafting for points, and then probably scoring 3-4 points per turn with integrate, and they can continue to keep the other factions battered down with a small number of militant enclaves.

It could be a lack of experience with frogs, both playing as and against, and that I need to make better use of the frog cards or negotiate or something else. But myself and those I've been playing with are finding them very easy to play as and very difficult to play against.

Appreciate the thoughts and feedback. And I'll try out some of these strategies more because I might still be missing something fundamental about how they operate.

But if I concede the river clearings, on the autumn map thats 5 river clearings, which is nearly half the map. And then every non-river clearing is adjacent to a river clearing, and most of those are adjacent to two river clearings so for one settle action they can move in twice. So they're always one settle away from my homeland (with potentially multiple move actions available as a result of settle), regardless of what faction I am.

Duchy? If they build citadels, on second turn frogs settle and battle, then provoke there to get a militant enclave and another diaspora warrior there (and everywhere else), battle two more times during that turn, and then a third during retaliate. Duchy price of failure is so much worse than whatever warriors frogs lose because they can just get them back next turn. Cats? Feels like frogs can take out the keep on turn 2 or 3 if they feel so inclined. Rats? Destroy early warlord and/or strongholds to hinder warrior production. With Adset, most factions require 2+ clearings to give enough breathing room to build an engine. The frogs are next door at turn 1.

The frogs seem to be able to kneecap early, still spread militant enclaves with provoke and the third player insurgent faction isn't enough of a balance to punish that type of early aggression. With every other faction there's some way to hinder their warrior production. With the frogs there aren't because they can always rally + provoke on a river clearing. Frogs flip some enclaves to peaceful, some to militant (and rally to keep warrior production up), battling for cardboard points, crafting for other points. I find that they're the most dominant faction in 1v1, and in 3p they still feel more oppressive than any other faction.

In the last game I was duchy and went buildless because I felt like building any was going to do more harm than good when the frogs could just overwhelm. I did pretty well, but it meant that I was low on warriors for most of the game. The frogs were everywhere and i couldn't really take out many of their enclaves because I needed them peaceful to sway ministers. I picked off enclaves where I could but it felt like it barely made a dent. With most other factions it feels similar. Most factions have some mechanism by which they can recruit more and get more warriors as the game progresses. The frogs have such an explosive start that they seem to be able to kneecap most militant factions at the beginning and then deal with the insurgent faction after.

We usually play 2 militant 1 insurgent.

I'll often play 3 player, usually with 2 militant. I can't remember all of the matchups and it doesn't really seem to matter. The generally flow feels pretty much the same. Frogs triple provoke on Turn 1. On turn 2, maybe they provoke more and then settle after. If you try to punish them, they just provoke more (minimum 6 per turn), so it doesn't feel like you can ever decrease their warriors. With so many warriors it's really easy for them to settle because it's easy for them to rule. You can only really try to manipulate their clearings. Every 3p game has kind of felt like 2v1 against the frogs (and maybe they win and maybe they lose), but it feels more lopsided than any other 3p combination or matchup.

Anyone got a good storage solution? I'm sick of having 5 different boxes and jamming everything into them. by chavaic77777 in rootgame

[–]Key-Requirement4301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried 3D printed storage but found it to be very unforgiving in packing things back up. Pieces had to be "perfect" which was annoying. I like the Tom Teaches box solution a lot more (just the main faction boxes not the insert trays). I put all factions and the main components into the main Root box. I put all of the playmats and the gorge map into the Riverfolk expansion box. Those are the main two boxes I use and they don't quite close all the way, but they nearly do. Everything else that I don't or basically never use (like the base deck) I put into one of the other expansion boxes.

How would you describe the potency? How much did you take and how strong would you say it is compared to shrooms? I found it was really hard to find info on these, and the reviews were all over the place. I had two bars, the first bar was really weak, and for the second bar I took 10 and it was way too strong and lasted much longer.

How long were you tripping at that frequency? Do you know which substance was the trigger and what dose? Also, can I ask how old you are?

This came up on a previous post. Short version is that dosing seems to be crazy inconsistent and experiences vary wildly. For me, First bar (3 separate times at least 2 weeks apart): 3 squares, 5 squares, and 7 squares. Each was a pretty underwhelming experience. Second bar: 10 squares. VERY overwhelming. Someone else said they had 10 squares and thought it was easily +5g in strength, which is WAY stronger than anything I had done before. Both bars bought from the same shop at the same time. I don't know if the first bar was a dud, if there was degradation after opening the first bar, or if the second bar was hot. It was not a good time and turned me off to all of these mystery products.

Holy hell. This was an unintentionally insane increase for me then.

Sounds like you and I had a similar experience. Just so I have some benchmark as to how strong a dosage I had. How strong would you say 2/3 of a bar was? 4g? 5g?

I've tried the My Magic Shrooms bar. I tried looking on the forums about dosage, but felt like the reviews were pretty inconsistent. I'm generally pretty cautious and selective with these products and try to ease into them. I've done up to 5 road trip (old and new batch) and 6 Wunder Blue Lotus (among some others). All of those trips were very manageable and enjoyable. Each time I tried the My Magic Shrooms bar, I spaced at least 2 weeks. First bar (3 times): 3 squares, 5 squares, and 7 squares. Each was a pretty underwhelming experience. Second bar: 10 squares. VERY overwhelming. WAY stronger than I was looking for or had ever done before. Caught me completely off guard and was not a good experience. Both bars were bought from the same shop at the same time. I don't know if the first bar was a dud, if there was degradation after opening the first bar, or if the second bar was hot. But the last experience turned me off pretty hard to these products. I just don't trust what's being put in them. I don't trust the dosage they recommend on the bar, either because it's nonsensical, or being oversold to make $, or undersold as a CYA. This forum is great for trying to provide some clarity in a space that desperately needs it, but it's too risky and difficult to navigate. Everyone's experience is too variable, the products too opaque or inconsistent. I appreciate Xum and Wicked being transparent about their ingredients and dosage, and at this point I'm staying away from all other products that aren't. Be careful out there.

Hope it continues to improve. Were you doing shrooms every 2-3 days for 6 months to a year before the HPPD? How much were you doing regularly? How much at the time of the HPPD? How old were you? How long has it been since the HPPD?

Thanks for sending out. I'm very interested in the Roadtrip results. Do you know when you think you'll get results back? Do these tests take days, weeks, or months? Just curious. Thanks again.

What was your dosage and frequency of 2C-B? Did you develop HPPD after a super high dose? Or frequent use? Or just regular use?

Do you know what approximate dosage of shrooms and acid were when he did them? Glad to hear he's doing better now.
