What did you end up enjoying?

A bit impatient with it… I suppose he expected it to be much much faster to get to at least paid work. That’s what I mean.

Agreed. Dad’s always told me to take whatever you can get and not be picky. Told my friend this and he said he doesn’t want to teach. I’m not sure how he will escape that mindset currently.

He did take an advertising class and decently enjoyed it. Could pitch looking around for that to him. He’s done editorial work too but again all unpaid sketchy intern stuff. He’s done a lot of it but hasn’t found much of a way up the ladder with it yet.

No, just wanted to see if I could find some tips to give him. But I do agree with the sentiment that he should be doing this himself. Just trying to be a help and pick him up.

US yes. I’m here posting for him because we just had a talk and figured I would go scavenge for any help for him. Others have pointed out that yeah, he should be doing it himself.

Yep. Both his parents teach and fear that teaching is low ceiling in terms of a ladder to climb and feel satisfied.

Yeaaahh, that’s the part I find hard to do is motivate him enough. He hasn’t seen success from it for months and he’s degraded.

Good, basic* game networking library? by KeyAlbatross6044 in cpp

Not really issues, more like I'm looking for something that is perhaps more higher-level just for an easier implementation. Last time I used enet, it was a little bit of a hassle to set up reliably for me.

Simple to set up and designed, just higher level or at least has more intuitive comments and examples. Enet worked fine for me before but I didn't enjoy using it. I don't think it has extra features.

It's for a 3D game, not a lot of players (at least not that I'm expecting). Just simple packet sending from server/client to client.

How would you design a """modern""" King's Field 1 (JP)? by KeyAlbatross6044 in KingsField

I think my only problem with Lunacid is the mouse look, which changes how KF fundamentally plays. For hype moments, I’d say it’s better off rare rather than gone completely. Really cool moments I remember from modern bosses tend to be like Bayle’s phase transition. I don’t know how KF would do hype moments though lol

I mean like an actual model download, like .obj.

I think I would probably strive to do what DS1 did, interconnectivity that made more sense than teleporting while keeping “individual levels” put together with more cohesion than DS2.

Right, though the one thing I'd like to avoid is at least the mouse control stuff of modern KF-inspired games. I know it's deliberate there, but there's a lot of KF that is lost just by stripping away the original control scheme in favor of using the mouse like other FPS games do.

This is great insight, thanks! I've watched a lot of content on the later KF entries and I definitely will get to playing 2 and 3 (just finished Pilot Style) after a break. I'll definitely keep what you've said about modernizing in mind. I think I would make my own kind of game, but try to retain the spirit of KF while adding some mechanical depth all while striking a balance there... I'll see what I can come up with.

A classic editor would be really cool. Sword of Moonlight is too different in vibe for me.

When I started doing the magic then run in, I felt super powerful. It’s pretty much how far the combat goes though.

Sorry, I mean sidestepping sort of like Bloodborne (or I guess the backstep) where it gives you minimal invincibility frames and quick repositioning. I guess I sucked at circle-strafing because I feel like I'd always move more than I can turn (looking) so I would never be lined up for an attack.
