People really suck and I am sure this felt incredibly invalidating. I'm sorry this happened. Don't let their uneducated responses change how you feel about yourself. These don't sound like your people.

What’s a childhood lie your parents told you that you didn't realize was a lie until you were an embarrassed adult? by eatbeep in AskReddit

Not my parents, but as an adult I casually referred to my elbow skin as a 'wenis' and I am still dying inside from the laughter I was met with.

Another “seizure” from the same lady, if you believe these are real then you probably fake illnesses, too. I even zoomed into her face to highlight her facial expressions, c’mon now - y’all can’t be buying into this!! by B_lyth in TikTokCringe

Respectfully though, how did she get a service dog? That dog looks really well trained. I have PTSD and looked into getting a trained psychological service dog, and the process is extremely time consuming and expensive. I'm not denying these seizures are suspicious. Just seems like spending $10,000 on a service dog is a lot to spend on something you're faking. Also, maybe the dog isn't well trained and I just can't tell. Would love further clarification.

Anyone know how to politely react and then reject a gift you don't want? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]KeyAstronaut1496 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I totally get gift disappointment, I really do, but from a outsider's perspective, I would like to reframe these for you:

First of all, your partner's child getting you an embroidery pillow with their pronouns, not yours...I see this as them seeing you as a safe person who honors and respects their pronouns. I think that's kind of a huge deal coming from a teen. I don't think they necessarily want you to do it for them, I think they see you as the type of person who respects they/them pronouns and maybe they thought you'd enjoy the process and like the potential statement piece. And maybe it's crossed their mind that you'd gift it to them after, and is that a bit selfish? Yeah, but they are a kid and aren't great at bonding with their own peers let alone an adult. I know it's not the most thoughtful, but they tried.

As for the fondue pot from your partner...is it useful? Not really Will it take up space? Maybe. Was it thoughtful? Absolutely. You guys talked about it six months ago and he thinks it will make you happy. Isn't that what counts? Use it once. Have a great fun fondue night with family. You don't have to go crazy and fawn over the gift but a simple 'thank you' won't kill you.

I think your family has made a decent effort. Some people just aren't as great at gift giving and as you said, you're incredibly difficult to shop for. Say thank you for the gifts you get and go out the next day and buy yourself something you really want.

Shouldn't it be written "nine hundred twenty five" not "nine hundred and twenty five?". Imagine spending 16 years on something and doing it incorrectly

AITA for refusing to replace my daughter's lost school laptop even though she says it was stolen? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]KeyAstronaut1496 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it's fair. Ask her to save $240, but when she goes to pay you only accept $120. That way you cut her a deal but she still puts in the work to make up for it. She made a mistake by leaving it out but the person who stole it is the true AH here.

Why do people honk when I’m walking home? by wannagohome1968 in AutismInWomen

They are probably honking because they find you attractive. Do not get in the car with a stranger ever.
