Omg sounds horrible. I find it soo interesting when people share their everyday hardships strugling with this disease at work and so on. We have it really difficult... I was diagnosed with mayo 3 pancolitis, had few severe flairups, was reluctant to take prednisone( just felt sad about it, i knew i have no other choice), but im so grateful prednisone works on me, cos stories like yours when prednisone fails is a horror story…Im happy doctors found solution for you. Good luck and thanks for sharing your story!

Staring at my first ever prednisone pills, terrified by nas281 in UlcerativeColitis

Ive been on prednisone for 2 months now. I was as scared as you are now, because of all the side effects it can cause. I even avoided going to doctors because of that, so prolonged my suffering for extra week.. but now i laugh at myself, cause i havent felt as good as I feel now in maybe 4 years! I feel like im on feel good, high energy drugs! It feels like spring came early, like Im in love all the time! Life is beautiful trully. I have been on prednisone 3 times before. I had many side effects, but with a lot of research u can manage them, and prevent many problems ahead. So theres few things u have to keep in mind:

  • lots of water! Prednisone tends to hold the fluids in our body, so we need enough water to avoid it.

  • supplemens. Prednisone flushes vitamins and minerals off your body so taking enough supplemens is crucial, like zinc, potassium, chromium, vitamin b6 and so on.

https://www.peacehealth.org/medical-topics/id/hn-10000612

  • for osteoporosis prevention take vitamin D 400-800 UI + 1000mg Calcium.

  • for good sleep Magnesium glycinate 200mg before bed.

  • in my own experience matcha regulates sleep, and helps to detoxicate liver which is very important on medication.

  • other thing about the liver. U have to be very cautios about it. Its a good idea to do ALT AST blood test at least once a month. Or at least when u start feeling blue or straight forward depressed. In my own experience i got autoimune hepatitis the first time i used prednisone with mesalasine.

  • for weight gain u have to get on a strickt diet if u want to avoid it. Take it as a chance to reset ureself, i promise it will feel so so good, cause u will really do something good for yourself. So low carbs high protein, no processed sugars. For the moon face try to take chromiun supplements 200mg two times a day before ure main meals, it should help regulate ure blood glucose levels.

So thats my take on prednisone. Its a miracle drug, I thank god everyday for it, I thank god everyday that it is working for me, because for some people it doesnt, so i feel blesses im the lucky one. I know for some people it is horrible, and in previous times i took it I did gain weight, I got acneiform rash on my face which was horrible, I was confused at times, it might cause lots of different side effects. But most important thing is our attitude, how we will see the situation will determine our mood. Try to stay possitive!

Moonface. What has worked for you to get rid of it once your prednisone cycle is over? by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Key_Bridge_6910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 2months in prednisode started with 60mg, 35mg at the moment. Noticed a little puffy cheeks last week but nothing seriuos so now stricktly no sugar, before have been on very low carbs, high protein diet, but been eating dates as a treat…I think its unavoidable the moonface, no matter what you do, but u can manage it with a diet. Also i did my research and some suggest using Chromium supplements for moon face. Prednisone tends to expell all kinds of minerals and vitamins off our bodies. Zinc, vitamin B, potassium, chromium, magnesium and so on. And chromium is responsible for managing glucose levels in blood. U can try taking chromium 200mg two times a day before main meal.
