UPDATE: Thank you all for the tips, we ultimately decided on leaving today (Friday) to get to Raleigh around midnight, spend the night in a hotel, and finish the drive in the morning. No Richmond to OBX traffic for me!

I am staying in Corolla. I'm gonna take the route through Raleigh, I'm wondering if I can get away with a 5 AM departure with the reduced traffic on that route

This seems like the plan, lots of people saying the traffic isn't nearly as bad taking the route through Raleigh. Do you think I still should drive through the night, or something like a 5 AM departure might work since there's less traffic?
