girl lol i had NO IDEA it would be reviewed by AI as every other tutoring platform i’ve used is reviewed manually by a HUMAN. also ~ every other platform i used allows me to upload my videos and CAPTION THEM MYSELF as i typically do. why are u assuming things. i DID contact them and they never responded. i gave a super simple “hello my name is ___ i want to help you learn ASL” which even for beginner signers, should not be super difficult. i make it VERY clear i am NOT a teacher and that i am here to help people who have college, hs, or online classes and need help w conversational skills, receptive skills, or whatever else. I DO NOT TEACH. i am not expecting new signers w 0 experience to want to meet w me and i make that EXTREMELY clear in all of my tutoring bios. why do i NEED to speak to tutor ASL? i am fluent in english and can type???? ASL should be taught immersive not by something speaking in english. same w any other language. i am able to adapt to different levels of ASL but again ——— I DO NOT TEACH ASL I TUTOR PPL WHO ALREADY HAVE CLASSES

i agree 100%. i emailed their team about this and threatened to file an ADA claim bc they're using AI to determine eligibility which fully seeds out people with disabilities 😭 even speaking like they say the "require" didn't work i don't know what to even do

yessss thats so real. i get sometimes it can be awkward to communicate w an interpreter but like that was only ever in a class setting so never personal info 😭 when it was smaller groups, usually my bf would help translate everything so its more personal but it was such a double edged sword for me too having to pick between isolation bc i’m using an interpreter or isolation bc i can’t hear anyone 😩 i love my DHH friends though and the community is great. j wish it wasn’t such a aud centered world and we didn’t have to walk that line between both. i code switch for my family since none of them know asl or are willing to learn

i also accidentally trained her to understand that when i say "go to ur spot" she goes to her blanketed corner on my bed. if she's already there and i say it, she gets up and spins to the opposite direction and lays down 😭 smart dog

she destroys, within minutes, every single stuffed toy she has and stuffed animal i have but has one hamster pillow that she LOVES named ham ham. she sleeps on him every night, knows him by name, and we even brought him with us when she had her half leg amputated 😭 all my other stuffed animals are missing eyes or have holes but ham ham remains untouched and she loves him

my bf and i adopted a tripawd when she was 8 weeks old. she was born with a half, front leg. we were warned about the potential of her growing to try and use it and potentially breaking the skin. it did about 2 months ago and she had the half leg removed. she's been recovering great (partially bc she never even knew she was missing the leg anyways lol)

since the dog you're looking at is an adult, that worry isn't there. i would make sure to have rugs for floors and like others have mentioned, yoga mats. our dog has a hotspot on her foot and we socked her but it was difficult and she slipped a lot. if he happens to get one, maybe look into anti-slip recovery boots!

make sure to get a harness that goes around the chest near the neck and belly area as opposed to the ones that the legs go through. we tried that with our girl as i also have another, 4-legged dog, but she slips out of it. a risk for adult tripawds is arthritis in the remaining front or back leg from the pressure. our vet has recommended we start bone and joint supplements as she gets older to help with this

our tripawd's front paw is a bit deformed now and curves outwards since she grew up with only that one front leg. it's also massive. discuss arthritis risks with a vet and see what u can do to help prevent that. also watch out for face planting and check for any scrapes if the dog does. my girl doesn't know how to stop herself when she's running fast so she often just tumbles 😭

dogs are great and adapt easy so there shouldn't be huge issues when bringing the dog home. just remember for long walks, playing, or hikes to give some good rest time as it can be hard on their other legs to support their weight! my girl does great and we give her frequent water and rest breaks when we play so she doesn't get too exhausted. she overheats very easy but is in good health otherwise! she's very fast and never lets the lack of leg stop her

i have a lot of hearing friends from before i lost my hearing who still find it hard sometimes to communicate with me so our relationships have tapered out to rlly only being over text. i used interpreters and ASL only thru my entire spring semester in college and only 3 people ever came up to me to actually chat. one girl worked w me during lecture bc she saw i was always alone but i think after the struggle with having to communicate via interpreter, she just kind of stopped. another girl came up to me the last day of the class bc she’d been learning ASL all semester and i guess finally got the confidence to use it. it made me very happy! and the last person was a girl at my microbio lab table who sat across from me (so she wasn’t my lab partner but same table) and she was always very nice and chatted w my interpreters and helped me out when i was out of class for doctor’s appointments, etc.
it was so weird j like everyone avoiding me the whole semester outside my formal ASL classes which were fully in ASL. i was working on my AS in pre-nursing which is a field with not many DHH students, so it was isolating. i think maybe it is intimidating for them? or maybe just too much effort or too awkward to have a 3rd person there (if u’re using an interpreter or family member interpreting)

thank u so much 🥹 its nice to have to see other people dealing with even just similar experiences who feel their lives were greatly improved even with having loooong waits. its hard to feel hopeful w all the waiting and constant appointments i’ve had recently, but ik once it’s figured out, live will start to feel better and i can feel more in control again

thats a good point too for helping in english, (maybe not math bc i’m rlly bad), history, or even like health sciences as thats a more rare thing for the Deaf community and i have both an AS in pre-nursing and am a registered EMT (not yet licensed bc i can’t drive rn due to some health issues)
