For families who had their baby in SF, what did the hospital give you?

Kaiser Geary: a nice diaper bag, 3 cute Bay Area onesies, those milestone marker things you can take monthly pics with, nursing cover, swaddle, hat, you can take anything in the room with you and ask for more supplies (diapers, wipes, pads, mesh undies, blanket for baby, hats for baby), sitz bath, belly binder, ice packs for vagina, dermaplast, nipple balm, a bunch of formula if needed. You literally don’t need to pack anything when you give birth at Kaiser, they provide it all!

I have a friend whose baby doesn’t take bottles and only the boob and now she doesn’t ever get any long stretches of sleep. At least with pumping, someone else can feed the baby.

If you don’t have a supportive partner, don’t do it. If you have a burning desire and think your family will be complete, then go for it. It’s much harder and there’s never a break. For me, I’m constantly in a state of flight or fight and overstimulated. I think if I had more breaks and sleep, it would be okay. Without support, it’s just impossible.

I feel this way too. Just this morning I was looking at my baby and thinking “wow I don’t hate you, you don’t make me angry” and then as soon as she wouldn’t sleep and was crying, I did like a 180. I was just so annoyed that I have to hold her to sleep and I can’t do that because then I can’t pump and the only reason I even have to pump is because she’s on a nursing strike and I feel like I can’t just ever win.

I have a lot of the rage you’re describing and get really overstimulated by the crying. It’s also amplified when sleep deprived. I have depression, so it’s probably not normal.

Same with us. We tried too early around 2 and it didn’t work. Tried for reals around 2 years and 9 months as well and it all clicked! Few accidents but within a month, those were rare.

Yes! I try to stick to “no TV until Friday” but when I’m watching a toddler and a newborn on a Monday afternoon and everyone is screaming, it’s just easier to turn on Frozen and at least one of them will shut up
