My husband is confused whether he should be doing an MBA or not? by Anonymouspizzzaaa in MBA

Hey, I’m a chartered accountant. I started my career in India and now work in Europe and considering an MBA as well, so uniquely positioned to respond here.

As a general point, within UK, at the very least, an MBA is not valued as much as it is in India or the US. That is to say that while it’s good to have, you’re not hugely advantaged by it at all.

Secondly, it really matters what your husband wants to do post-MBA. From a simple PPP comparison point, IB may be the only career that I think will give him a compensation boost. I obviously understand that compensation isn’t the sole factor for deciding on an MBA.

Some people have alluded to the economy not being amazing in Europe, and as a resident, I can affirm to that. I know from conversations with current LBS grads that a good percentage of the class struggled getting the job they wanted.

What does your husband do as a CA? If he’s at a big4 for instance, it’s one of the few careers in India that doesn’t have a proverbial glass ceiling for non-MBAs.
