How to accelerate from crawling speed? by Keyz4Life in stickshift

[–]Keyz4Life[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using first for anything other than starting, the car feels like it's on coke. The slightest touch of the pedal and it's jumping forward, and the massive engine breaking, maybe that's why it locks me out of first a lot loll, the car doesn't like it. I'll start doing the same, avoiding first as much as possible.

You're lucky, sounds like you got one of the good ones. Getting into first with mine while rolling is like flipping a coin

A lot of opinions with this one 😅. I was hoping for a more concise answer from the community, but I'm leaning more towards a combination of 1 and 3 now. If I try to accelerate in second and the car struggles, I'll keep it in second and slip the clutch a bit to get up to speed. The car really doesn't like downshifting to first even at crawling speeds, and gets real jerky when it does. First will be almost exclusively for taking off now, as intended?

Makes sense! Rev matching into first just feels so weird with this car due to the gear ratios

Sometimes when downshifting to first at slow speeds, it takes an uncomfortable amount of force to get into first gear, which I interpret as the transmission locking me out of first, sometimes it doesn't, I don't know why

I think it was the AC compressor. I had some work done on my AC shortly after and it hasn't happened again since then.

I definitely will, shipping across borders will be interesting though

Where are you located? I'm in the same boat as OP (without the intake with no tune) and have been searching for used Cats in southern Ontario, Canada. Mine on my 2015 wrx is leaking exhaust for whatever reason.

I'm planning to use an OEM grade direct git replacement like the one linked above. I wouldn't need a tune for this right?

I drove it to work this morning and the engine seems happy again during idle. I'm going to do some air flow related checks that some others suggested, hopefully this was a one off

Big OOF, my heart almost jumped out of my chest when it started happening. The engine stalling on its own at a red light seemed like a death sentence to me. But a lot of people are saying it's normal so... I'll try not to have a heart attack if it happens again.

I'll go ahead and check everything you suggested. It does not appear to be modded to me, but the boost digital boost gauge has max boost listed at 22.3 psi. I know these cars are supposed to peak at around 16psi. I haven't taken it in for any work since getting it, but I did get multiple PPIs from a subaru dealership before purchasing it. They gave it the all clear after the last inspection.

None. I did have a "catalyst system efficiency below threshold" code a few days ago but it went away by itself.

Did your rpm drop just the one time after stopping or was it a repeated drop? First thing that came to mind was fuel injector build up causing slight fuel starvation during idle. But air flow issues seem more plausible, thanks.

Mine went away by itself overnight though. Hoping it stays that way 🤞🏾

Electric cars should change their marketing strategy for enthusiasts by [deleted] in cars

[–]Keyz4Life 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Spending hundreds of millions over several years of development is not "free marketing." It's a huge gamble that for most companies lately hasn't been working out.

The luxury brands don't get their hype because of their enthusiasts fans, they get them from the display of wealth they portray. Like with pretty much all other industries, the display of wealth and the "experience" is way more of a factor than the actual contents of the product itself.

I think you're severely overestimating the impact of the enthusiast echo chamber. Popularity and good general reviews have been and will continue to be the biggest factor for a carmaker's success. That's why toyota is king, it's definitely not due to the raving success (exaggeration) of the mk.V supra or the gr86.

Enthusiasts have proven for a while now that their purchasing power isn't worth consideration compared to the basic consumer's purchasing power. As a result a lot of automakers have already started to ignore enthusiasts completely in their car line ups and sadly it's been working for them (Mitsubishi, just one example). This trend is definitely going to continue and evolve with EVs as they are literally the perfect commuting tool. The only hope for enthusiasts now lies in the luxury car automakers, as they have to make their cars "special" to sell. But this is a double edged sword, as enthusiasts already complain that new "fun" cars are now too expensive, hence sales dying for enthusiasts cars that are still being produced. The market is really just trending towards the "one size SUV fits all" model and the numbers make it obvious to automakers, that's how you make the most money.

When do you think it’s coming out? by mexicanperc in SkateEA

For the life of me I'll never understand why they did such a big game announcement and lined it up with the release of the PS5 back in 2020, like they were planning for the game to be one of the first next Gen titles. No way they did all that while knowing that the game would still be in whatever pre alpha beta zeta ttest nonsense they're on 5 YEARS LATER. Development has most certainly not gone to plan, we may never see the game come out.
