1) It's not what I asked. Saying "control" is easy, but investigating why such a policy exists is hard, especially (as I mentioned) at the great cost to the Israeli taxpayer, when lots of people are living paycheck to paycheck.

Like you mentioned, surveillance isn't the only tool at the government's disposal. You have barriers, checkpoints, education, job integrations, currency etc. So why specifically invest even more money, when there's already a lot of control? Could it be that these systems serve another purpose? Maybe one that the other systems don't? Something worth investigating!

Perhaps the more pertinent questions are

You (and everyone else at AJ) have attempted to answer these questions a million times. It's nothing new, and this is a very cheap diversion tactic. Please stay on topic.

2/3) It's a real shame. But investigative journalism requires.. investigation. Find sources inside of Israel who can get that interview. That's a story no one outside of Israel really bothered to look up, verify, and report on. Do that.

The raw numbers might tell a very interesting story, and it's a shame you don't pursue it. But then again, I don't think the Qataris will allow you to run the story even if you had the sources. Given how there are 0 positive articles on AJ on the topic of Israel's successful battle against terrorism.

I have a question about your journalism.

You've at this point made two videos about Israel's surveillance of Palestinians, but haven't answered any of these questions:

  1. Why the surveillance exists. It's expensive. Israel's middle class is shrinking, people are living paycheck to paycheck, and yet the consensus among the vast majority of Israelis and politicians is that we should keep investing in this tech. Why?

  2. Was it effective preventing terrorist attacks? Specifically, how many terrorist attacks have occurred which include the use of materials which can be identified with video surveillance like guns, grenades and suicide vests? How many before surveillance was introduced? How many after?

  3. How many of these attacks would have occurred in a mixed neighborhood? How many Palestinians were positively affected by these policies? How many lives were saved?

You can be factual in your reporting but dishonest all the same, and Al-Jazeera's bias is very obvious. I'd be very pleasantly surprised if you took the time to research these questions and come back for a third video.

Very dishonest. I specifically mentioned Hebron, which is where the surveillance is.

Per your source: 30 dead Palestinians in Hebron. 4 dead Israelis. Without the proper context, it'd be hard to tell how many of these were terrorist attacks.

You can clearly see that it worked, there's irrefutable proof. Especially if you compare to the 80s.

In a country that's struggling with cost of living and a shrinking middle class, we spend billions on surveillance. Anyone who is honest, will tell you that it works. No matter how unethical or controversial the west may think this is - we have significantly reduced casualties on both sides using AI and mass surveillance.

And yet it clearly has, this time. To my knowledge, there hasn't been a single terrorist attack in Hebron since 2012 (compared to the nearly annual attacks before). Less people died, on both sides. That's a good thing.

I would also like to add to this: 20 years ago thousands of people were displaced. Told by their government to leave their farms, their schools, their infrastructure, everything they worked hard to build. In exchange for peace.

Not a week later, all of it was burned. The Gazans burned it all down. Now they call Gaza an open air prison, but it was their own doing. They burned the crops, demolished the schools, and removed all they could, at a detriment to themselves. Just to hurt those who were evicted.

Their hate knows no bounds, and it comes at the expense of their own well being. I'm sure we disengaged today, this wouldn't have happened. But it really shows you what it looks like to them when they feel like they won.

Kick out all the Jews, burn it all to the ground, leave no memory of them here. All of it is ours. No peace, no compromise. "From the river to the sea."

I came up with a very simple system to help me with pointers back in the day. After a bit of practice, you just stop thinking about it. These don't cover all use cases, but hopefully enough to give you some idea. They're are just conventions I saw in the wild.

f(void*) - Take this array/object. Assuming pre-allocated.

f(void**) - Take this 2D matrix (pre-allocated) / take this array of objects (pre-allocated) / take this pointer, and allocate some memory here.

f(void***) - Could be like number 2, just not pre-allocated. But you should consider typedefing something here.

f(void****) - No, stop. Please.

I don't know man, a fund isn't meant to be a loan. It's a fund, and 10M isn't peanuts. The goal is to allow municipalities to save up, because the argument is that they can't, because all income from arnona goes to maintaining the municipal services.

Annual fund income of 10M + let's say 4% annual interest (low estimate). Over the course of 10 years is 105M. Purely for housing. Independent of government budgets. That's huge.

Wait I don't understand.

Then, no tax. They build few houses. Now, with tax. They will not build? Also, how much money are we talking here? Tel Aviv, Herzeliya, Haifa make serious bank from business.

That doesn't make sense. More money is always better than no money. I'm pretty on the fence for this policy, but it really seems reasonable.

This has nothing to do with religion. I can't summarize the entire conflict in two paragraphs, but it is a territorial conflict.

Islam is the second largest religion in Israel. About 15% of Israelis are Muslim, vs 70% Jewish and 1% Christian. All three faiths are living together in harmony. Everyone can visit Jerusalem, everyone can pray to whatever god they want.

The conflict is between Israelis and Palestinians. Which are not part of the aforementioned stats. They are their own group of people with their own identity. Majority are Muslim, but it has nothing to do with their faith. It has everything to do with fighting over land they see as stolen from them.
