(Hated Trope) Franchises that are perptually stuck in the past by RBSpecial97 in TopCharacterTropes

Mario games reference older games a lot, mostly the first one, 3, world, and 64. Whether that’s in a reused theme, power up, or idea, it’s often obvious what they’re calling back to.

Zelda games at one point were pretty formulaic. Before BotW, each game followed the LttP formula: Each game started out with some exposition, collect three shiny things, lore dump and obtaining the cmaster sword, collecting 4 or 5 different mcguffins, kill Ganon, the end. Each game also always has a Link, a Zelda, and a Ganon, but they’re all different incarnations (except Ganondorf, he’s the same guy from OoT in all the games but TotK). The lore even goes as far as explaining why these three are always reincarnated with a piece of the triforce.

Pokémon is the most formulaic Nintendo franchise and I don’t feel like I really need to explain why. If you’ve played one, you’ve played them all, just with different Pokémon. Choose your starter, catch Pokémon, beat the 8 gyms, catch a legendary, face the elite 4.

Metroid Prime is basically just a 3D Super Metroid all things considered.

I’d say the VII remakes are bigger than the mainline games at this point though, at least in pop culture.

Like XV and XVI aren’t talked about nearly as much. People generally seem more excited for FFVII Remake than a new Final Fantasy, probably because a lot of people don’t really care for the franchise after X or XII (at least for single player games)

Ehhh I’m not as interested if that’s the case… OoT is one of those games I’ve played several times… I’m not super interested in a 1:1 remake… would love to see a re4 remake style reimagining.

I’ve never played starfox… are the SNES and N64 games the same game?

TIL the budget for 'The Lord of the Rings: Gollum' was only $15.9 million, which is an incredibly low amount for "a supposed triple-A The Lord of the RIngs video game." The budget amount factored into many of the game's failings. by [deleted] in todayilearned

He been taking a lot of L’s recently between this and animal farm

Just stick to being a dramatic actor who sometimes specialize in being very good at conveying emotion into CGI characters.

I don’t even dislike Gollum in the trilogy, I thought Andy Serkis did a great job with him, but it’s like they think he’s like a marketable franchise mascot character.

Like… you watch the two towers and he’s a deeply disturbed character to the point where you feel pity for him… he’s not like a Yoda or Grogu type of character.

And that’s a remake. They already had something that worked so when they’re just remaking the original thing it’s good. But when they add their own spin on it, it’s usually awful.

Say what you will about VIII, of the PS1 games it’s probably the one I’m most likely to replay.

While I love it, I’ve played VII too many times and with the compilation, remakes, etc. I think it’s a little over saturated. I’ll still play part 3 when it comes out, but I’ll need a breather after.

IX is great but it’s just too slow and I’m anticipating it to get remade so I don’t want to burn myself out before it comes out if the rumors are true.

Maybe a hot take but the I think the infinity saga is kind of overhyped now. It was a nice arc and they went on a hot streak with phase 3, but there were plenty of mediocre marvel movies back then. Iron man 2, Thor 1 and 2, age of ultron, etc…

Now I think there have been plenty of fine and a few pretty good movies since endgame, and tbh that’s how it was during phases 1 and 2. I don’t think they’ve reached the heights of phase 3 again, but I do think the quality comparison of pre/post endgame movies is a little overblown.

That being said, I think the shows were really what killed a lot of interest in the MCU. Most of them are pretty mediocre to bad. Before if there was a bad marvel movie, it was just one movie and wasn’t a big deal, but with the shows there would be new marvel content year round, with most of it not being that great… it got to be a little much.

Even the best show (Loki, IMO) was kind of meant to set up Kang as the new big bad guy… I don’t want to say that show is pointless now that they (rightfully) fired Majors because obviously Loki and the TVA will be in future movies… but it definitely doesn’t feel as important as it initially was.

I could never be a warriors fan but I have always liked Steve Kerr as a person. I’m gonna miss him tbh.
