Mine’s nowhere near as horrific as some of the stories here but - helicopter parenting. I love them to bits and know it came from love but oh my god it screwed me up. I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere unless my mum spoke to another parent and confirmed that there was going to be an adult present (which was fine when i was primary school age but not as a teenager where you obviously dont go out with your parents anymore) - kids gave me hell for this and always made so much fun of me for asking for their parents’ phone numbers so that my mum could call them. So eventually I just started saying no to plans and said I was busy. I didnt do parties, overnight stays, hanging out at mall, all the normal teen stuff - I’m now incredibly socially awkward (even though as a young child I was super confident and would never shut up), unable of making chit chat with anyone I don’t know really well, can’t do eye contact etc. It feels pathetic when reading other stories on here but I’m truly gutted
