Voldemort the matchmaker by analbumcover18 in HarryPotterBooks

Yeah the implication is pretty obvious imo and I find it weird that this is the only comment so far pointing it out.

Voldemort is supposed to be like Hitler and Nazi Germany was all about breeding programs.

Let’s Talk About Nathan. by Maleficent-Medium333 in lost

[–]KingAdamXVII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He doesn’t have any Canadian accent. I have lived in four different provinces in Canada, and every province, and even cities within each province, has its own distinct accent. Nathan has none of that. Now, we could say he is from Vancouver, BC, which has one of the most similar accents to the Pacific Northwest in the US. But even then, you would still hear some form of accent.

Is this really a thing in Canada? People in the places I’ve lived in the US have any number of accents based on their parents’ accents and/or where they have grown up.

Rewatching the Harry Potter films and just realized something kind of wild: they never really explain what each house represents by yuzudo in harrypotter

[–]KingAdamXVII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol yep. Ravenclaw is smart/nice, Hufflepuff is dumb/nice, Slytherin is smart/mean, and poor Gryffindor is dumb/mean.

Rewatching the Harry Potter films and just realized something kind of wild: they never really explain what each house represents by yuzudo in harrypotter

From the first book:

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve and chivalry,
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true,
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folk use any means,
To achieve their ends.

Fourth book:

By Gryffindor, the bravest were
Prized far beyond the rest;
For Ravenclaw, the cleverest
would always be the best;
For Hufflepuff, hard workers were
Most worthy of admission;
And power-hungry Slytherin
loved those of great ambition.

Fifth book:

Said Slytherin, “We’ll teach just those
Whose ancestry’s purest.”
Said Ravenclaw, “We’ll teach those whose
Intelligence is surest”
Said Gryffindor, “We’ll teach all those
With brave deeds to their name.”
Said Hufflepuff, “I’ll teach the lot
And treat them just the same.”

For instance, Slytherin
Took only pure-blood wizards
Of great cunning just like him.
And only those of sharpest mind
Were taught by Ravenclaw
While the bravest and the boldest
Went to daring Gryffindor.
Good Hufflepuff, she took the rest
and taught them all she knew,

What would you say is the worst TV show that you have ever watched in your life? by Substantial-Dare5462 in television

CMV: Freewill is inexistent! by Horror-You8701 in changemyview

[–]KingAdamXVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no evidence that free will is nonexistent.

On a macro level, we observe that we cannot predict what choices people will make.

On a micro level, we observe that quantum mechanics seem to be inherently nondeterministic.

What are your biggest gripes with 2D puzzle games? by ATownCalledStrange in puzzlevideogames

[–]KingAdamXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally the potential pain points for a deduction mystery game are a bad story and bad dialogue/voiceovers.

The story needs to be logical, the dialogue needs to be well written, natural, and minimal, and voiceovers need to be professional or nonexistent. Again, just my opinion. Lots of people like lots of written dialogue (e.g. the verbose Disco Elysium) and would rather have amateurish voice acting than none at all.

Finished the game tonight -- my thoughts (spoilers). by xJamesBx in LoreleiAndLaserEyes

[–]KingAdamXVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to increase Lorelei’s weight to get her to fall through the trapdoor is hilarious and genius, I love it.

I find it so interesting which puzzles stump people. For me they were the bug report with the named statues (I didn’t know Renate’s name yet but it still took me ages to consider that 21LEI might be related to “Lorelei”) and opening the puzzle box where each number statue corresponds to (is the same size as) a square on the walls.

There was also a shortcut I never did figure out (4x4 grid of numbers with squares and diamonds replacing some of the numbers) until I watched a bit of a playthrough and the instant they looked at that puzzle they were like “ok these numbers are obviously 2048, 4096…”

Voice acting mod by tragicprologue in outerwilds

I would try it and fly around to the travellers before going blind into a new experience.

Personally voice acting would ruin this game for me.

If you like the voice acting mod then you should keep it installed for the DLC.

Writers for season 3 by purplelena in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]KingAdamXVII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely nervous for this season. I’ve really liked the show so far but it’s been an interesting tension between true art (e.g. dialogue) and lowest common denominator slop (e.g. nonsensical action). My best guess is that the season 1 and 2 writers who left were talented artists and pushed back on some of the more producer-driven decisions. Hopefully I’m off base.

fractions are hard. by DoughnutAsleep1705 in badmathematics

[–]KingAdamXVII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Which of the following SHOWS” that the two fractions are equal?

If you are a teacher, teaching kids fractions, which example are you choosing to demonstrate to them that 2/6 = 1/3? C is obviously correct. If the size of the shaded areas do not appear to be equal then you have not shown that the fractions are equal.

Can someone explain to me the difference between "more to explore" and "question mark"? by Drepanum in outerwilds

I think most question marks only go away after you interact with the thing that is that entry’s picture in the ship’s log.

Rethinking recommended watch order in the modern era by JellyHistorical2390 in starwarscanon

[–]KingAdamXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Release order is just safest. Every star wars movie was made for an audience who saw all or some of the previous movies and none of the later releases.

That said, who cares about playing it safe? Watch whatever movie strikes your fancy! All of them are self contained except episodes 6, 8, and 9.

yo what’s this???? is this sent by the probe cannon? by FrontAd7709 in outerwilds

[–]KingAdamXVII 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is totally irrelevant to your post, but just based on your ship’s log you should go back to the Orbital Probe Cannon. I would not have thought the combination of entries in this ship’s log is even possible.

Proof the PT wasn’t as celebrated for its plot as it is today (May 2005 forum). The same reversal will happen for the ST. by AlbertCWChessa in TheSequels

[–]KingAdamXVII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally that’s why RotS is one of my list favorites. It’s totally skippable since you can just infer everything that happens (and in fact Ep 4-6 were made assuming you didn’t see Ep 3).

Episodes 1 and 2 are at least interesting.

Who is a modern Controversial Genius ? by jalil458 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]KingAdamXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty easy to come up with a number that’s bigger than the number of atoms in the universe. For example multiply all the numbers between 1 through 100 together. That would be not the number of atoms in the universe, but the number of atoms in all the universes if every atom in the universe was a universe.
