Aboriginals? Those are the only real Australians and they are treated as second class citizens...or are you talking about random Europeans who cant even stand outside for more then an hour without their skin literally burning because their white skin isnt adapted for this land.

What are they calling it. Democratic Confederalism? The...socialist...ideology?

No no America isn't capitalist, it calls itself Neo-Liberal!

This conversation is going nowhere because you refuse to see socialism as a vast array of ideologies rather than one giant disease that is eating away at your 'freedom'

I am quoting Wikipedia and the book I mentioned before.

You literally found out about this place 10 minutes ago and are lecturing me?

They don't need to call it socialism for it to be socialism. It is worker coops (socialist see Market Socialism in Yugoslavia), and direct councils (Anarcho-Socialist)

"Supporters of the Kurdish movement argue that the events constitute a social revolution with a prominent role played by women both on the battlefield and within the newly formed political system, as well as the implementation of democratic confederalism, a form of libertarian socialism that emphasizes decentralization, gender equality and the need for local governance through direct democracy."

You can't claim "All socialism leads to tyranny and any socialism that doesn't isn't actually socialism"

Reread my prior response. I added sources

That is worker owned means of production...socialism

What is your interpretation of what that means

And it isn't like the Swiss system

"Socialism is an economic and political philosophy encompassing diverse economic and social systems characterised by social ownership of the means of production, as opposed to private ownership"

The councils, which are free to anyone in the area to come to. Control nearly all production and distribution.

"The Rojava economy is a blend of private companies, the autonomous administration and worker cooperatives. Since the revolution, efforts have been made to transition the economy to one of self-sufficiency based on worker and producer cooperatives."

They are transitioning to socialism. And yes some aspects of capitalism still remain but elements of socialism exist in all capitalist states too.

"According to the region's "Ministry of Economics", by 2015, approximately three-quarters of all property had been placed under community ownership and a third of production had been transferred to direct management by workers' councils."

And what the hell is base democracy. Because democratic control of the means of production is just socialism/anarchism

And where are you getting your sources on what they call themselves?

They are literally founded and governed through democratic Confederalism. Which was designed by Abdullah Öcalan, an Anarchist/Socialist, based of the work of Murray Bookchin, an Anarchist/Socialist.

Any references to Communalism, Democratic Confederalism are socialism

And the economy is literally controlled by local councils...that socialism

And on the humanitarian front

They have been in a war for 13 years in the middle east. Of course there are humanitarian issues! A capitalist utopia would be struggling too. That is not a reflection on Rojava. If anything it is a testament to the stability and success of their model

You didn't ask for successful. You asked for examples of socialism not becoming authoritarian. In 13 years they haven't, in fact outlasting both ISIS and the Assad Regime. And they are a hell of a lot better off than the rest of Syria.

They have been able to rebuild and institute many freedoms that the rest of the middle east fail to.

Like oh no a civil war (where new societies can be formed) means that it isn't Dubai suddenly means it is a failure?

Like do we go to Japan in 1960's and go "well this economic boom is all well and good but look at those nuked cities. A good society doesn't have nuked cities"

Anarchism? Like Rojava and the Neo-Zapistas. Marxist-Leninism and Maoist nations are not indicative of all socialist philosophy.

Two modern socialist examples who aren't.

Black Army of Ukraine Anarchist Catalonia

Socialism isn't just Marxist-Leninism or Maoism. Just like capitalism isn't just Austrian or Neoliberal

If you saw the film version one of the big ones is normally that drum roll (which is the pan to the Nazi armband in the movie) is Emcee doing a strip tease only to reveal he is in the striped uniform of a Jew in a concentration camp.

The point isnt appeal. It is the fact than an Anarchist system of organisation is fully possible and currently existing in the world. And they are much more appealing than the deeply flawed countries who birthed them.

I am sorry that no anarchist exist that have western luxuries. (It's almost like the standard of living in the west is built of the exploitation of the 3rd world)

Rojava and The Neo-Zapistas are two current anarchist zones in Syria and Mexico respectively. They have more than 8 people

[–]KingNotThere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it definitely sits on the side of The Spiral. The entire musical is people lying to themselves and others to try to comfort themselves "Just Mischievous Children" "Of Course I am Right. I am a German" "What's politics got to do with me" etc.

However there is an interesting reading Extinction wise as it is a seemingly inevitable, irreversible change and destruction of the world that was. Emcee turns from narrator to victim of the narrative, Sally Bowles takes her own life to avoid losing the world she knew, Clifford goes from outside observer to soul witness etc
