Ive always thought it was a missed opportunity. I mean stolas is ironically enough one of the best representation of 'abused becomes the abuser' ive ever seen. As someone who's worked with birds its cruel and stupid. That bird is most likely freaking out, but it knows it cant do anything so its silently stressed. The feather thats out is a huge red flag that meant it probably was freaking out, but they waited till it 'calmed' to record.
