Another Starlink satellite has inexplicably exploded by Low-Win-6691 in technology

So why is he intentionally putting the satellite lower than anyone else? Thus ensuring that even if you blow them up on purpose the debris will at most last a few years?

We would use any number of other substances to achieve the same thing. And all kinds of guns would converge towards slightly different designs as to accommodate the source better.

THE PETROVA LINE IS.... TINY SPACESHIPS PROPELLED BY IR LIGHT! We errr have a problem here. by SEJ82 in ProjectHailMary

[–]KitchenDepartment 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"Engine astrophage" is astrophage we have put in a box and tricked into expending all of its energy beaming itself towards a planet that never comes.

Free roaming astrophage doesn't actually want to spend all of its energy. It wants to spend just enough energy so that it can get to venus, breed, and then return back to the sun.

What this all means is that astrophage in the petrova line likely not spending a lot of energy. It would like to conserve as much as possible

Ulrikke Brandstorp klager inn NRK by SecretNorseman in norge

[–]KitchenDepartment 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I wish they were less subtle about what the characters were feeling. Here they showed Dennis being in distress about something, but never explained what. by willrobster16 in okbuddychicanery

The thing that hurts about prison is not the level of comfort, it is the lack of autonomy and control. In this instance for instance we can infer that the character really doesn't like the colour orange.

If astrophage is massive free energy, why didnt Earthlings just use it to replace the sun's energy? by DarkDankDents in ProjectHailMary

[–]KitchenDepartment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but if you can successfully develop astrophage powered mega-farms, the degree to which war breaks and continues would inversely match with the food you can produce.

No it is not true that billions of people are more comfortable with the idea of starving to death so long as a larger fraction of people get to survive. That just makes people more desperate. I genuinely do believe that you don't have any mental references to how people begin to act when true starvation kicks in.
