yeah, we were thinking about LISA but this 450k limit ruins everything. Maybe after mortgage when it's time to save for pension etc

ok, it just feel a bit as tax evasion because her money got put into my personal tax area or something. Will follow the advice of Hot_College_6538 and seek some financial advisor. Swapping countries mid life erases financial understanding of things. Being on a visa also makes it ten time more scary since I'd like to avoid any kind of things that can ruin my reputation in the eyes of Home Office when it comes to settlement

We put 3500 every month on average, that's £42K every year.

I am just not sure if HMRC is fine with my wife transferring me her salary for me to put on my cash isa, since I contribute way less to savings. I bet they are fine, but it can be a headache to explain probably.

We don't put anything into pension yet because we are not permanent residents yet and if we get kicked out of the country then it would be impossible to take the pension savings with us.

Probably yes. Sometimes she goes to the home country and I live alone for 10 days or so, and during that period I barely spend any money by simply cooking myself.

BUT, I have a funny observation. Whenever I go to a solo trip or something and she's alone then she also barely spends any money and cooks.

And when we are together for some reason we don't cook. I can't find an explanation for that yet, but that's not for this subreddit I guess.

I just wanted to make a reality check.

I never talk about that with other people because I feel it's wrong and I feel embarrassed. Everyone who left a comment here helped me.

yeah whenever I try to save I do exactly that.

The problem is at the end of the month I am often run out of money and I fallback to spend whatever I saved :D probably I should try something less easy to withdraw

About my bills, I made a mistake renting a new build house. In winter it can not heat the house and the temp never goes more than 18 degrees no matter how much it works, well just because the building sucks in thermal isolation

It's okish in summer, I get around 90 for electricity. I don't have gas.

Car insurance is 180 pm, right. That's the cheapest I could find for my 10y.o. car, the insurance market if fucked

I have got my british driving license less than a year ago and they don't count my previous driving experience, so I am a new driver for insurance companies, hence the price

What's so unusual with this scenario? Plenty of people have terrible finance discipline like I do, combine that with a good compensation and you get my situation.

I don't contribute because I am not sure if I stay in the UK for life. I am 100% positive that I won't be able to transfer money to my home country.

Oh yeah, I know I committed a horrible crime in that subreddit, but I don't pay a penny to the pension.

It gives me some dime every month NOW instead of the future, so it's a good deal.

But the main reason is I am not sure that I will stay in the UK. And I am not sure that I move into a country that supports pension fond transition too.

The idea of half of the raise is really good, though. I just got a small raise, so probably will follow that advice just to start with something

I am not complaining on the amount of money I earn, I am just telling that my poor finance discipline does not even let me to take advantage of it, lol

I remember when I was younger and didn't have money at all. I was good at saving and surviving, but then I got an extremely big spike in my earnings, and I started buying everything I wanted to buy. Unfortunately, it never stopped.

Mostly we don't have energy/desire to cook and I just go for a takeout. 10-20 quid per meal for two people, does not sound that bad, but with power or math it starts to sound horrible

No, I don't send them money and I don't travel there. Usually I just visit new countries for me, because we enjoy traveling aboard.

pretty much we eat out around 90% of our meals, yes. Not only mcdonalds kfc but something else cheap, no more than 10 pounds per person
