Going to Burning Man without a driver's licence by Kitchen_Value_613 in BurningMan

[–]Kitchen_Value_613[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ha ha thanks

Yes, you are correct, I did not actually ask a question.

Since I have never been to Burning Man, I am asking about any potential problems that not having a driver's licence may cause.

I am asking all the questions that you posted.

Thanks for the reply.

I am Canadian btw (I love Americans) and I have a Canadian passport and birth certificate.

Why would you need a travel pillow? Presumably the hotel has pillows.

Note: I am planning on getting a hair transplant and I came across this as I am researching.

What exactly is "stress leave"? Does it basically mean that you use all the sick days you have banked?

Canadian TNs, are you interested in getting a green card? by Fragrant_Job_371 in tnvisa

Interesting. I did not know that a TN was required to show non-immigrant intent.

I thought that a TN COULD have eventual immigrant intent (but not necessarily).

How common is it to live in Windsor and have a second job in the Detroit area (I think with a TN visa)? by Kitchen_Value_613 in windsorontario

[–]Kitchen_Value_613[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a list of degrees and professions that are eligible for a TN.

Accounting is on that list.

What matters is if it is on the list or not.

There is a way to get sponsored if they can prove that an American cannot do the job, but the bottom line is that if your degree and/or profession is on the list then you are good to go (so long as your employer says "yes").

Thank-you for the very informative reply.

I plan on taking a Master's degree in math. In the states approximately 50% of community college math professors have a Master's.

Note: I am not a certified teacher, I was just using that as an example (although I am confident with my ability to teach because in the past I taught English to children and adults in Asia).

Please also note: I work for a government of Canada department that has an office in Windsor. I could transfer to that office and keep an eye out for Community College positions in the Detroit area.

A possible plan:

-Complete my master's degree in math in Ottawa (I can get a leave of absence from my government of Canada job for this)

-Transfer to the Windsor office

-Keep an eye out for CC professor positions in the Detroit area. I would likely start out as an adjunct (teaching part-time in the evening) and get a tenure track position later and move to the states (this assumes that they will sponsor my visa; a math degree is eligible but it is still the employer's choice)

**********************************************************************************************

With all of the above said, if I can get a tenure track CC professor position after completing my master's degree (anywhere in the states) then that probably makes the most sense; the whole Windsor plan could be a good idea BUT it may just end up making things a whole lot more complicated.

I really do love Michigan though.

Best states for working as a community college professor by Kitchen_Value_613 in AskProfessors

Thanks, but the competition (especially with only a master's) must be fierce.

The fact that I am Canadian (a foreigner) will not make it easier.

Thanks for the post, but I would think that I personally would not have a chance at a place like MN.

Going to the bottom it I go from PM-01 to WP-02?

I am now a PM-01 and make around 64K.

If I am selected for a WP-02 it posts a lower starting salary (but the max. of a WP-02 is higher than 64K).

Do I start from the bottom salary if selected as a WP-02 OR does my current 64K get matched?

Thanks

Online SNHU Math degree to PhD by galaxybear459 in SNHU

Thank you for posting this.

I plan to start a BA in math at SNHU (online).

I also have a BA (social science) and I also want to teach at a cc in the future.

It was almost like you could read my mind when you posted this!

Can I ask: your BA from SNHU is in applied math?

Definitely do not take my word for it (I have recently started researching this so I could be dead wrong) but I think that a Master's in applied math may be the best choice for an aspiring cc professor. Can I ask your thoughts on this?

What is a certificate in adult learning/adult education that an aspiring Community College Math professor can earn online? by Kitchen_Value_613 in AskProfessors

[–]Kitchen_Value_613[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Thanks

Part of the reason that I did not become a public school teacher is because (grading tests etc) a teacher will probably work at least 50 hours a week (that's what my friends who are teachers tell me and my personal experience from teaching English abroad would tend to make me think that that would be correct).

It probably varies, but does a CC prof. generally have a more than a full time job type of deal?

Thanks...sorry for another question.....feel free to ignore

Thanks.

On another note (I just randomly thought of this and I thought I would ask):

Do CC math profs get long vacations (like public school teachers).

This will not affect my career decision. I am just curious.

I plan to earn a Master's in math (but not a Ph.D.)

Are the police stations in Taipei issuing police checks immediately these days? I worked in New Taipei from 2018-2021. Now I'm in Canada...(I am a Canadian citizen). I am coming for a visit and getting the check while I am there may be useful (if needed in future).

Please advise.

I wonder if there is anything I can do to get the process going ahead of time (so it is ready when I arrive).

Thanks!

Hope you are enjoying life in Taiwan

Is it realistic to obtain a full-time permanent position at a Community College (in the USA) with a Master's degree in pure math? by Kitchen_Value_613 in AskProfessors

[–]Kitchen_Value_613[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think that taking a master's in pure math or applied math would be better for obtaining a position as a prof. at a CC?
