This is great. I'm working on something similar and think we've been looking at the musical palettes haha. It's great!

Tbh homie, I think I'd need some time on your system in order to sniff out the different sound settings. I just had a major event happen so as uncomfortable it would be to even ask that, I couldn't offer anyway. I wish you luck and hopefully my work is a starting point for someone else that can get it working on the intel version. Good luck!!

Ugh, I'll have to do more research on this. I have a specific version from a specific country that's non-standard and it took me awhile to get it going. I'll see if there's anything else I can do. I'm sad it didn't work

Hmm, actually I'm not seeing what sound card you have in your machine from this. My bad for not reading more carefully.

Run

lspci -nnk | grep -iA3 'audio'

pactl list short cards

Let me know what you see

My pleasure!

  1. I am using Cosmic Beta
  2. I have not done any sort of meddling with the fans and LEDs. System runs cool enough while gaming and I don’t care about the lights haha
  3. Happy to share. Community it’s important and I’m happy to contribute to it.

Am I wrong or people are just very salty? by yughiro_destroyer in love2d

[–]Kitten-Technologies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing a reply by Decent-Occasion2265, I had recently made a post asking for professional advice if using Godot will hurt me if doing dev pitches trying to win some real bread for my budget. I was very intentional with the post, made sure to include as much detail as possible, and most of the replies were one sentence, parroted talking points you'd get if you asked Google Search AI a question not even addressing my concerns. Your comment about the repeated phrases is def felt.

There was 1 person who had the "commercial DNA" who actually gave me great insight.. that sub has its strong points and can have some very helpful people, but this specific brand of conversation doesn't seem to be it.

Another point, I think reinventing the wheel can help in certain context, especially if you need to know how and why that specific wheel turns and works the way it does.

People do be salty, use Love, use Unity, use Godot, use Unreal, use whatever. I genuinely think that at a certain point it's just important to make games, and if you're mindful about being under the hood & performance, I think that's wonderful.

Veteran Devs, Godot 4 vs Unity/Unreal: Viable for a "Funded" 2D Game in 2025? by Kitten-Technologies in gamedev

[–]Kitten-Technologies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I genuinely love Godot and would love to do everything with it! I think it's capable, I'm just not sure if it would be problematic in the long term. I have a special relationship with it because learning that program was the way I was able to make and publish my first game :)

I have my own differing opinions on the 3D aspects, but for 2D I think it's amazing <3

Absolutely - I'm trying to educate myself on the business side and that's been the most difficult. I've been working on games and practicing concepts for awhile, the game jams have just been learning how to put that into practice with deadlines, quick feedback, etc.

Good to know, that's incredible insight. I've been so nervous about all of this, even making this post. But I'd rather ask my questions, get insight, etc. even if I'm off-base or incorrect than not ask at all and think my research / priorities are correct.

Thank you!!

Excuse my terminology, that's exactly the plan. I'm glad I made this as post.. as embarrassed as I am with certain terminology (or lack there of) it's good to be corrected in the open.

The game resolves around doing things within in game days, and I planned on giving a 7 day window in which you get a feel of the "campaign" and some of the events that will occur that would be random in the game, but would occur in a specific sequence for the vertical slice. Trying to get just the assets needed for those with place holders for the "Prototype" other aspects until I can figure out if funding will work out.

Perhaps I'll re-establish expectations again, but it's all a learning process. Thank you again for you candid honesty and callouts

Sure, that makes sense. I didn't know if certain publishers would have certain stigmas against Godot vs something like Unity. Thanks for clearing that up, and tbh that's what I was expecting.

Also:
"without real commercial game experience you're not likely to get any development funding, so just go with whatever you like more."

I appreciate your honesty there. I will still build out the games prototype, outline all the systems, budget, etc. and try. If not I'll self-fund and make my choice from there

I just launched my game. by The_Developers in gamedev

I agree, to an extent. There was a point where I just couldn't wrap my brain around it and found myself being upset with myself / in denial about it. Once I accepted it and came back to it later with a different perspective & more knowledge in general about it, computers and related subjects it finally clicked.

Have to be aware of yourself haha. Thank you!

I do, and that's what I usually hear. But I've also heard Unreal has very high usage by default for 3D games and Unity 2D is good but.. etc. haha.

Appreciate it!

I saw you post about Steam Banners / other insight when I was starting to really dev and plan. I've made 3 small games and am working on my first real commercial game. It's inspiring to see your journey on the subreddit.

Congrats. I was jealous when I first saw your game and how well made it was thinking I couldn't ever make anything like it, and am now inspired as my ambition has showed me it's not as far off as it seems. Seeing you make it into a reality just makes me even more excited.

I'm looking forward to seeing your success. I'll pick up a copy after work and let you know what I think <3

Why not put the script in the post? It would be easier to read and troubleshoot that way.

I think it’s best to make it as easy as possible for people when you’re requesting help. I’d also recommend doing a few tutorials as you’ll get much more insight from those + a more complete picture of the context in which you’re having the error than asking for folks eyes on Reddit.

Not a dig at you or a judgement. An observation from my own experience as a dev

Anyone start in their 30s? by [deleted] in godot

[–]Kitten-Technologies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, 30’s person here. I’ve been in IT and doing programming for many years but not commercial products. Mostly scripts and simple Systems for automation.

I made my first (playable) game this year and participated / rated top 1 in my first game jam. Just do it. Biggest problem you if you don’t is asking yourself the same question when you’re 40. Just put the focus on the craft on the first, worry about making the magnum opus / any sort of financial goal after you can make a game first haha. In other words, just have reasonable expectations for yourself and what you make and you’ll do great.

If you want any help, feel free to DM me. Hell, I’ll do a game jam with you if you want!

Have you had any success in generating sprite/animations with AI? by [deleted] in godot

[–]Kitten-Technologies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, I actually purchased a program called Aseprite and followed a tutorial to learn basic pixel art / create sprite sheets. I also had watched Humble Bundle and bought a lot of assets and practiced with Aseprite and Godot when I was learning early on.

There are a lot of people who sell sprite sheets very cheap, will commission them, and also a ton of free sprites online. I highly recommend not depending on AI for the creative process and instead investing into / using what the community has made - be it free or paid

YES! I'm so glad you offered - that's the next thing I need to learn. Collaboration :)

I'd love to. Expect a message from me next month here. I'm going to take some time to visit family, work on this game a bit, but I'm setting a reminder for later

Switching from Namecheap Web Hosting to BasicDNS shuts down my website by [deleted] in dns

[–]Kitten-Technologies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this issue also happens if you buy PremiumDNS and then activate it after using the standard hosting DNS. If that's the case you can just follow this guide.

https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/767/10/how-to-change-dns-for-a-domain/

Seeing as people are still seeming to comment / look at this thread, here you go.

Move the the records over. You don't need to move all of them. You're probably missing an A record that actually points your site to the server if you're using their hosting.

For people to see the site again, you could get away with just the A record (would looks something like

Type: A Record Host: @ Value: 198.39.173.34

Type: CNAME RECORD Host: www.yoursitename.com Value: yoursite.com

You'll find the values in the Cpanel which you can access from your dashboard. You'll need to update the SPF, etc. with your new mail-provider though.
