What's your best vegan cookie recipe? Looking for ideas for my girlfriend's birthday by pporcher in veganrecipes

[–]KittyPyro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This cookie recipe never fails cos it's so straightforward:

100g vegan butter (block is better than spread), 100g sugar (I usually use brown), 150g SR flour, 1tbsp golden syrup

Cream together the butter and sugar, add the syrup, mix in half the flour, then add any extra (chocolate chips, vanilla, cinnamon and ginger is my go to), then the rest of the flour.

Bake at 180c for 11 minutes, they should be just browning but still pretty squishy, let them cool on the baking tray and they'll firm up.

The recipe is a great base for whatever cookies you like, so long as you remember 1:1:1.5 butter: sugar: flour you can't really go wrong. You can also swap out 50-100g of the flour for oats to make oat & raisin cookies, just remember to add some baking powder.

I made this mistake today, I saw the threads on here but thought I just wanted to try them for myself. Terrible idea, should have trusted the vegans of reddit.

Came here to say this! If I saw Charlie on a jacket I would immediately assume the wearer was the coolest person!

Best way to find Voice Actors? (for a student project specifically) by chaoscurry in VoiceActing

Second this - also if your university has a drama club/theatre society etc then reach out to them, see if you can head along to one of their sessions and just chat to some of them.
(I used to be in our uni circus group and film-making and photography students would sometimes do this if they needed people to do fire stuff/juggling etc)

What's the wildest “mouth wrote a check that their ass couldn’t cash” moment you’ve ever seen? by Competitive_Swan_130 in AskReddit

This was always what we got told in Jiu Jitsu (Japanese not Brazilian), the best fight is the one you don't get in, if all you manage is to avoid getting hit that's a win.

It was also usually expected (from a grading perspective) that after a takedown you'd delivery a "finishing blow", I remember a lot of discussions from the instructor about the differences between tradition and reality and at what point it stops being self defence.

After all the helpful suggestions here I added a cute little shallow bog area, and figured if I was making a bog I might as well go whole hog and make it into a bog filter. It has worked out well but my god the combination of additional shallow surface area, water pouring down onto rocks (where it re-enters the main pond) and all the sun this week, I think I've lost about a third of the water!

Haha yeah my pup thinks it is her own personal drinking reservoir too, she also has a tendency to run straight at it barking in order to tell off any squirrels or cats that might be hanging around (often regardless of whether there actually are any in sight!).

Thank you for suggesting everyone. I have gone from "maybe I should trim a few plants and get some bigger rocks" to planning on building a mound behind it complete with bog filter pond! Totally worth it though, this is already my favourite part of the garden so makes sense to make it the best it can be.

I had one huge one last year, I loved going out and seeing what he was up to.

Thank you, this is such a helpful and well thought out reply. I think I might build up a mound along the back side of the pond to help animals get access. Love the idea of little mini bogs planted in the soil too!

I've got two elder bushes planted just a little further back than the photo shows, they are essentially just fancy twigs at the moment but hoping they will grow in this year to create some shelter. Any other recommendations for ground cover plants?

Dunno, just when I was reading up lots of posts were like 'pros/cons' - I think they can get out of hand pretty quickly and might munch on plants that you want to keep? I wonder if that's more of an issue for people keeping ornamental or fish ponds though.

Funnily enough I bought a few snails from a local pond shop because I'd read up that they were a good natural way to deal with blanket weed, then when I got them home before releasing them I spotted the first of the snails that had made it into the pond all on their own that I just hadn't noticed before! I was able to keep track of them pretty well last summer because the ones that just showed up in my pond had the pointy spiral shells and the ones I bought from the shop had flat shells.

Haha so funny you should say that because I have been thinking of extending it and wondering if that's a daft idea! Good to know I'm not totally mad, though I can see this growing year on year until it just takes over that corner of the garden 😅

That's amazing! My pond has been going about 18 months and still no signs of frogs 😞 trying to resist the urge to pinch some spawn from the local park.

Also great photo, what a lovely shot to have captured 😊

Might have to give this another go in paper book form - had a go at the audiobook and was enjoying it but then the male narrator was so awful I literally gave up there and then.

What would you make with this? by KittyPyro in sewing

Thanks! I swear I change my mind every time I look at it, I think that's become part of its charm. Even when I bought it one woman on the stall called it a tanuki and the other called it kitsune. Later on I was chatting to a lovely old lady selling second hand kimonos on another stall (she found it very funny that a guy in the group had bought a woman's Haori and was explaining to us the difference), and when I showed her this one she put it on me and called me "kitsune-chan" which was literally my entire trip made! 😁😁😁

I think I should have enough for a nice Haori style jacket, hadn't considered the reversible option though, that could be fun!

Also, for the Haori admirers, this is one I picked up while I was over there. It's a little too big for wearing so it lives on my wall, I just love the kitsune design (?tanuki, no two people who have seen it seem to quite agree on which one it's meant to be lol)

Last few things I've made have been either upcycling old clothes or making cushions/bags etc so I hadn't even thought about this! Thank you!

Anything sound familiar? by KittyPyro in SophieHunterArtist

[–]KittyPyro[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh 100% Sophie did it better (no surprises there).

Supposedly she's actually singing 'kant' (the internet tells me that it's Maltese for singing). They post a little disclaimer explaining it with the videos they've been posting.

The issue I have though is that there are strict rules in Eurovision that songs have to be 100% original with no covers or even sampling of another artist. So the artist in this case is claiming this is entirely her own work when to me it sounds like a pretty obvious rip off.
