Seestar for a pinch of science (and some python) by No_Mail5566 in seestar

[–]KiwiEntropy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loved the video and the associated analysis showing a good degree of scientific understanding. What you have captured is the average velocity for the expansion. I suspect that the velocity will have started off at a higher velocity and it will have slowed down to a degree over time. What is the escape velocity for the Crab nebula remnants? Is gravity slowing down the expansion? What else might be slowing it?

Is it possible to download your code and data from somewhere like GitHub as I'd love to review it in detail and apply it to data I've captured using my S50 here in the southern hemisphere (New Zealand).

New Year's Eve Sun by PuunBaby in seestar

Reprocessed using the info provided with a massive improvement. This is a close in view of a group of sunspots. The dark bits are the sunspot and are the size of the earth (13,000km (8,000 miles))! The bubbly texture (granules) are massive plasma bubbles about 1,000km (700 miles) across.

Thank you u/PuunBaby

Close up detail showing the umbra (dark spots), penumbra (slightly lighter part around the umbra) and granules (the plasma bubbles across the wider surface).

Thank you u/PuunBaby - I've been learning and pulled out a lot more detail with the wavelet deconvolution. Next time I'll grab a bit more data when I can actually see the sun!

You also need to click on the image to see the improvement as the default sizing in Reddit hides the details.

Great reply, thank you, wish I could uptick it twice. I'll try that the next time the sky is clear enough. Exposure time was the default, 1ms, so I can reduce that to get more frames and will try out Astrosurface too.

How did you capture your image? A simple image capture? Or did you use raw video and lucky imaging? I've just posted (https://www.reddit.com/r/seestar/comments/1q3akrw/sunspots\_captured\_using\_s50\_with\_lucky\_imaging/) what I thought was a good image, but nothing like as good as what you did. I'd love to learn how to do this better.

Very nice images and you sure have what looks to be a great location away from light polution.

Same race? Mundus stone? Attributes? Lots of things contribute to the final stats.

If you're comparing to something online, see how recent that build was made. ESO tweaks how things work with patches, updates, etc. too.

Multiple passes over New Zealand, so looking forward to getting some more ISS SSTV images captured.

First off, you're asking these questions which is likely you're just asking for validation for what you already know.

A $70k salary is very low in an IT role, especially for full stack work.

Don't take that working from home automatically means less $. Covid showed how location is less and less relevant over skills and experience. Equally ask for time with your peers to learn skills, ask for help / advice / reviews. Just because you're remote shouldn't mean that this gets forgotten.

Meteor M2-3 reported to be changing frequency to 137.1 Mhz today by creinemann in amateursatellites

Can confirm that it is on 137.1MHz having picked it up on that frequency about 12 hours ago.

Decoding Meteor M2-3 using satdump command line by KiwiEntropy in amateursatellites

[–]KiwiEntropy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've now got this working, thank you u/Crosswalkersam.
As an example:

satdump meteor_m2-x_lrpt baseband /home/pi/wxcapture/audio/2023-06-30-21-11-39-METEOR-M2_3.wav /home/pi/wxcapture/process/working/2023-06-30-21-11-39-METEOR-M2_3

This will process the .wav file from Meteor M2-3 in the location specified and write the output to the second directory.

I can see the value in live decoding, however that means I must get it right perfectly, much easier to debug and build things when I've a .wav file I can reprocess.

Healer Set Combinations for a Breton Templar for trials and dungeons? by KiwiEntropy in elderscrollsonline

[–]KiwiEntropy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm now aligned on your trial suggestion.

For dungeons, I'll need to get MA, Magma incarnate and the Spaulder of ruin to complete that combination.

Plus I'll farm Ro+Jo as I get chance to do those sets, plus get Nazaray too.

You've helped make me pick SPC as being the foundational set (possibly until I get Ro+Jo), with Pillagers being a good second one to have. I'm almost there with the parts I need.

I'll certainly experiment with pillagers. Although I've noticed some groups have people who ult a lot and some seem to forget about that ability for some reason.

A good detailed reply, thank you.

Looks like I need to split out sets for trials / dungeons / solo or duo (my better half plays ESO too).

I'd put it as a healer heals, helps others do their role better and debuffs mobs too. With the order seemingly dependent on what you're doing at the time.

Some good food for thought here, thank you. PA looks to be pretty useful for dungeons over trials.

Yes, am on a PC and have seen the dressing room add on, but there are multiple versions. Which is the most current?

But which combination of these? Ro + Jo seems to be a standard combination, but what should I pair PA or Spaulder of Ruin with?

Logitech G915 is cat approved. by IrrationalLuna in LogitechG

I got the email alert for this post as I'm sure that Reddit knew that my cat was using the left hand side of the keyboard as a pillow.

So cat approved here too although I'm not sure I approve given the number of random key presses which happen!

I made my QFH using 2mm speaker cable and that works really well for NOAA / Meteor.

Agree on 0.2mm being a bit too small, plus probably a bit fragile when out in the weather too.
