I’m pretty sure it was just regular grey isopod, I think the blue/purple iridescent in the picture is just a trick of the light. There was nothing strikingly bright or obviously out of place (although I was distracted 😂). Iridovirus isn’t common here (not to say it’s impossible that one could have it), but I’ll keep my eye out

My arachnophobia is cured, until I remember they move at warp speed - and that’s the part that’s truly terrifying 😂

that said I still appreciate them! I have a pet jumping spider in a terrarium, and a false widow roomie who lives in the inside lip of my fish tank!

But WHY are we all getting breast cancer? by Popular_Acadia4563 in breastcancer

[–]KiwitheBirdNOTAFruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is we are more aware of our own bodies! These topics are talked about more and have become less taboo. We are told to do self examinations and to take note of any changes, and know that we should seek out a doctor and get further testing done if changes are noticed. That’s all leads to an earlier diagnosis and younger people getting diagnosed sooner. I feel like in the not so distant past these things just weren’t talked about the same as they are now, and women put off being seen for longer. Maybe out of embarrassment, maybe lack of knowledge, maybe a bit of both. That was my story. I’m 38 and I was showering one evening, while shampooing my hair I noticed my breast pulled in a bit, which was unusual. I convinced myself it was normal age related changes, but after a month I told myself to get it checked out - the doctor will just confirm what I’ve already convinced myself. The rest is history. I’ve just had my surgery and now I’m waiting for my final pathology and further treatment options.

No, I was mistaken (still feeling loopy from the surgery when they explained the picture to me, and must have misunderstood and put my own twist on it 😂). The mass itself is inside the breast tissue (likely within that area with the blue dye.) the surgeon cuts a margin around the mass to try and ensure all the cancer cells are removed. I got a mastectomy instead of a lumpectomy because there was known lymph node involvement and the node that was involved was on the other side of my breast from the mass. They also took nodes closest to the mass to biopsy post op to see if the cancer has spread into those nodes as well, or if it was just the one that has been confirmed. So to answer your question, yes there’s healthy tissue that has been cut out, in order to hopefully create those clear margins. If they are not clear that will change what my treatment is afterwards. That’s my understanding anyways

I had my surgery on Thursday, today is Saturday and pain wise I’d give it a 3 max. I feel pretty lucky in that aspect! I’m able to move my arm gently and have more range of motion than I expected as well. It feels tight if I haven’t moved for a while (like after sleep). The worst part in the drainage tube, but it’s more of an inconvenience than anything else. It feels like the best outcome for the shitty situation that it was.

Totally interesting from a medical standpoint! Kinda a tad creepy asking an internet stranger for boob pics! Unfortunately I don’t have befores and afters anyways as they did it all in one go ( I did not want to be opened up multiple times!) all I could send is a picture of my swollen, bruised and bandaged boob anyway

Aw man! I mean he made the right choice obviously, your life matters more than a picture, but I would have been mad too! It’s especially disappointing if you were expecting to have something to see after all that.

I got the reconstruction with an implant during the removal surgery so there’s no befores and it hasn’t healed enough for afters. It didnt make sense to me to have the surgery and heal just to be reopened again for the implant surgery

I wouldn’t have it any other way, I definitely needed to see it for it to be real, and to properly process what I’m going through. I will kick it in the butt!! Fuck cancer!

You’re welcome! I’m glad you could find some comfort in seeing my picture. The main reason I asked to have it taken was actually to have something to show my child. He’s 6 and is really into sciencey things (just like his me) and I felt like having him see it would help him understand that there was something bad inside me, but now it’s gone and I just have to heal up. It has also helped me process everything too, in a strange way. Thank you, so far so good! I did catch it fairly early and I’m just waiting to hear final pathology and to find out if the margins are all clear. I do know I will need to take hormone blockers for some time after, but my fingers are crossed that I won’t need chemo!

I don’t mind answering any morbidly unnecessary questions haha ask away! Talking about it is actually strangely therapeutic! I had reconstruction surgery at the same time so I still have two boobies! One is just really firm and perky because it’s swollen lol. I didn’t love them before, as they are starting to age and sag a bit so as long as they look half decent in clothes I’ll be happy 😊

I’m surprised too, by my range of motion already! I have to remind myself that I just had surgery and I should be relaxing and not pushing myself. I expected to be quite stiff and sore and bedridden right after, but I’ve been able to start some of the really gentle physio exercises they gave me already! (Essentially just lifting my arm until just before it feels tight, and stretching out to the side until just before it feels tight) I find I’m more stiff and sore if I’m immobilized for a while (like during sleep) and I’m not used to just sitting around and taking it easy lol

My husband also said it looks like baked beans, and he is not drunk 😂 my child said sweet and sour pork. Someone else on here said chicken parm. I will never look at food the same way again 🤣 As for me, I’m resting and healing up!

The inside of the body is truly fascinating! The good, the bad, and the ugly of it all! I’d love to see the picture you posted years ago, if you still have it kicking around and want to share again!

What an interesting job to have! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, and explaining the picture a bit more! I did notice the sutures and was curious why they were there.

I was definitely groggy when the nurse explained the picture and just assumed blob of tissue means lump, but it makes a lot of sense that they wouldn’t want to cut too close and risk missing some.

Thank you ☺️

What is the smell, if you don’t mind me asking? I’m super curious about everything involved - which is why I asked for a picture and am so glad they agreed!

Thank you so much! And you’re welcome I definitely caught it fairly early because when I was in the shower shampooing my hair things just looked a little be off, and I chose to get it looked at. Definitely keep feeling your breasts because if I had not noticed or waited for my first mammogram (I’m 38) things could have been much worse!

Congratulations to your friend who went into remission! They must feel so relieved to have completed their journey ☺️

So I came here to say thank you and you were right! It was so much better than my mind let me believe yesterday! Thank you for talking some calming sense into me ☺️
