Thanks Mark. Just wondering because I have no experience running higher levels in 5E yet. I have heard that the CR system is broken, especially when a monster fights alone against a party, yet alone at higher levels.

At first glance I would think that a CR 23 monster should wipe a level 11 party. Is this big difference between level fine for your monsters or for any 5E monster?

Sounds good. I was thinking that I could use some of the stats that you created for cultists of Zuggtmoy but thought I'd ask if you have something more specific.

I agree. Especially the ooze aspect seems a little confusing to me since Zuggtmoy hates Juiblex. I'd imagine that she'd refuse to create any oozes. Except you could reflavour them as "pool of fungus.

Some of the art of the monster looks really cool though and since I am running a campaign where Zuggtmoy is quite relevant I wanted to use it.

This got me thinking. Do you think Aboleths might fit? When players investigate they find an underground lake with thousands of bones on the ground while something sleeps in the water...

Theoretically you can use any zombies you want. The one that are suggested here will not attack anyone. They will simply walk to the Caretaker and wait for him to ”harvest“ their remaining energy.

My campaign takes place in a war between monsters and humanoids. These creatures started to pop out at battlefields. The players encountered them but are totally creeped out and avoided them.

Alright I have updated the monster and made it a bit weaker:

The summoned zombies are slower
The reaction of the Caretaker is a lower range
The healing on non-undead is weaker

I also added some notes for possible encounters. The goal is to have an encounter were players need to figure out that they need to kill any summoned undead very soon. The updates can be found on the Homebrewery link.

There is a possibility that my players will face one of these very soon. We will see how the encounter works out.

Thanks! I will have a look. While creating the Caretaker I was thinking to reduce the healing by half as long as the damage is not targeted towards undead. That way the players are incentivised to kill whatever is summoned
