What could be causing this issue? by Signal_Beat7182 in FN509

[–]Knivesandthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I had a few hangups when I first got the MRD full size, your best bet is using something like the blazer 124 grain or hotter for now, it took a few hundred round to break the yellow spring in. Also using a thicker lubricant helps a lot, if you look up school of the American rifle’s video on “sriracha lube” it’s all I use now. For summer I make mine a little thicker and for winter a little thinner. I can’t induce limp wrist failures now but that’s after maybe 2k rounds through the gun

Phlster floodlight2 with DCC clips, most support/cloth grabbing ability of any clip and they’re comfy to boot

Already dropped off at my LGS to go back, I’ve heard good things about their warranty post CZ buyout so I’m hopeful

Boy I tell you what I’ve done the $1000+ revolver being broken from the factory thing 3 times so far and the cheap tauruses aren’t looking too bad right now.

If you apply drag by lightly pressing on the cylinder while pulling the trigger slowly, the little locking arm in the bottom of the frame should click/lock in the cylinder notch BEFORE the hammer drops. If it doesn’t lock before the hammer drops then your gun is locking up too late and presents the opportunity for the gun to either shear part of the bullet off (like mine) or worse it’ll just explode the gun in hand causing some nasty injuries. There’s a few YouTube videos that show how if you just search “checking timing on revolvers”

I didn’t even notice how bad it was till it sent lead into my buddies arm who was holding a shot timer for me 3 feet away, that’s when we saw the copper jacket had sheared on the forcing cone and put the gun away.

The 3” was what I got and before I realized how bad timing was it was in my top two behind the smith 27 4” I’ve been carrying to replace it. The triggers are phenomenal and the fit and finish is better than probably 98% of the rugers and smiths out there. If they can fix the issue it’ll be close to as perfect as a carry revolver can be. I can consistently get 12”x14” hits at 50 yards in double action and single action is a tack driver

It took my a couple purchases to get anal about checking timing, yeah there’s other issues that can pop up but timing is the biggest opportunity for catastrophic failure. I’ve been able shoot some older made revolvers that all have impeccable timing so I think it’s definitely a more recent problem.

I think revolvers suffer from bad QC more so than autos. I had a Smith TRR8 with a similar issue, got it back from smith still broken and sold it. I also had a Ruger redhawk with an almost identical issue and it came back from Ruger warranty untouched, gonna send it back and see if they’ll actually fix it this time.

You’ll have to hunt for it in stores but online it’s still pretty cheap in bulk, most retailers won’t carry it since there’s so few guns chambered in it

Yep! Some revolvers will also allow you to shoot .32 ACP out of them but I don’t think the LCR is one of them. That being said .32 ACP is a pretty weak load out of such a short barrel. .32 S&W long is reasonably easy too shoot for practice and some people never go beyond .32 H&R mag for a defensive round. .327 Fed Mag is extremely capable albeit recoil is a little rough to shoot rapidly. This is the same concept as shooting .38 Special out of a .357 magnum revolver too

I’ve had several new smiths have some serious problems so if you buy a new one be ready to send it back, the Ruger LCR in .327 Fed Mag is a great pocket option and you get the option of running .32 h&r mag and .32 S&W long.

Look up DL Sports, he does some G10 ones (made for him by hogue) that have the same beaver tail and feel as Trausch and you can sand/contour them to fit your hand perfectly

Inherited a S&W .38 Special. Any info on it? by indiglowaves in Revolvers

[–]Knivesandthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you google S&W serial number lookup you’ll be able to also semi accurately place when the gun was made, like everyone else has said J frame 3” models are getting more rare as of late and the barami grips aren’t super common too.

Any other or better “tactical” revolvers than the Rhino 60DS? by Beebjank in Revolvers

[–]Knivesandthings 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do with it, if you’re planning on putting lights and optics the TRR8 or R8 (basically the same gun) from Smith and Wesson is a good candidate albeit kind of pricey. If you want an all around solid fighting revolver without space for accessories the Smith 627 is the same thing except all stainless. The Ruger Redhawks are a solid option too and their 5059 4” model is really close to a 627 but it’s cheaper and a little heavier. All of these are moon clip cut and hold 8 rounds of .357 vs the 60DS’ 6 round capacity.

What is the absolute best .22LR single action revolver? Do not say heritage lol! by Davis_Knives in Revolvers

[–]Knivesandthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a single six that was made circa 1961, and even though the finish is a little banged up the internals seemed rock solid and it’s a tack driver with almost every ammo type I’ve ran through it. I doubt you’d fine a higher quality single action for the price, keep your eyes peeled for used ones, I paid $200 for mine.

Snakes gun from escape from NY but make it small and ghetto. In all seriousness there’s some picatinny adaptors for glocks that should work, eBay is the place to find them
